Marcus Smart from Boston Celtics Has Tested Positive for Coronavirus

The sports star took to his social media to share the unpleasant news, and he used the opportunity to send a message to everyone about the seriousness of this world health crisis.

26-year-old professional basketball player Marcus Smart, a member of the Boston Celtics team, is among the Americans that have recently tested positive with the covid-19 virus that is hitting the entire planet at the moment.

Smart took to his Twitter account to post a video message that he captioned “I was tested 5 days ago and the results came back tonight, which were positive.” In addition to that, he reminded people of the importance of testing kits.

“I’ve been self quarantined since the test, thank goodness. COVID-19 must be taken w the highest of seriousness. I know it’s a #1 priority for our nation's health experts, & we must get more testing ASAP.”

In the clip, Smart assured his fans that he was asymptomatic for the time being, and he also reminded them about washing their hands properly, stressing that protecting ourselves is also the best way to protect others.

The NBA star’s followers didn’t take long to reply to the tweet with supportive messages and the best wishes for the player.

“Get well soon, Marcus. Boston loves you and is praying for you,” one of the users wrote. “Toughest guy in the league. Take care of yourself,” added sports journalist Justin Termine.

“Be well & get healthy. Second, thank you for sharing the seriousness & providing appropriate actions all need to take. The message must be continuously reiterated for us & the world to overcome,” user Jackie Martin added.

CORONAVIRUS HITS THE NBA

Before Smart revealed in social media that he was among the people carrying the covid-19, the Boston Celtics had released a statement that informed the public that the team was being tested after ben exposed to a known positive case.

"Taking steps to maintain the health and safety of everyone in our organization and across the NBA remains our top priority, and we will continue to work closely with health officials and the league in addressing this situation," the statement reads.

In addition to Smart, there are reportedly at least two players from the Los Angeles Lakers that also tested positive and are already under quarantine and cared for by the NBA medical team.

“All players and members of the Lakers staff are being asked to continue to observe self-quarantine and shelter at home guidelines, closely monitor their health, consult with their personal physicians and maintain constant communication with the team,” the press release read.

In the aforementioned statement, it was also shared that the Lakers’ players in question contracted the virus from at least one of four Brooklyn Nets players that have also tested positive.
