Moorhead 6-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot after Unsupervised Kids Found a Handgun in an Apartment

The Moorhead Police Department revealed that a six-year-old boy lost his life after several unsupervised children located a handgun in an apartment and accidentally shot him.

According to the police department's Facebook post, the shooting occurred on March 21. The boy received a gunshot wound from the handgun. Officers responded to the scene, where they found the boy's body.

The post read: "On the evening of Sunday, March 21, 2021, several unsupervised children located a handgun inside an apartment in 400 block of Sunrise Circle in Moorhead.”

The post further stated that a 911 medical assist call came in, and arriving officers located the victim inside the apartment. The police added they notified the boy's immediate family.

According to the authorities, the remaining juveniles that were present are safe. The case is still regarded as an active investigation. The firearm and the scene have also been processed.

"The gun was recovered inside the apartment, and the MN Bureau of Criminal Investigations has completed processing the scene," said the police. They further stated that after the investigation, the reports would be forwarded to the attorney's office.

“At the completion of this investigation, all reports will be forwarded to the Clay County Attorney’s Office to review and consider any applicable criminal charges," they shared.

The victim was identified as Marcellus, born on June 27, 2014, in St. Paul, Minnesota. According to a GoFundMe page created for his funeral expenses, Marcellus loved to play video games and play with his friends.

According to People, Marcellus' grandmother, Renee Williams, who organized the GoFundMe campaign, said, "This was a tragic accident that could have been prevented."

She further stated that this should serve as a reminder that guns need to be locked away safely and kept out of reach of children. Family members described Marcellus as "a great kid who was destined for great things."

According to ABC123, another child died tragically recently in a Pasadena apartment over spilled water. Like Marcellus, the little girl was also six years old.

The child was shot multiple times. Her mother identified her as Laurionne Walker. According to the mom, she left her daughter in the care of a relative to attend a night vigil.

According to the Pasadena Police Department, the shooter is related to the person renting the apartment. Police officers performed CPR until EMS rushed Laurionne to Bayshore Hospital, where she later died. The culprit fled the scene but was later arrested by police.

Another innocent life was lost as of late, whereby a 14-year-old boy identified as a Start High School student was killed in west Toledo, Ohio. According to WTOL, the incident occurred in the 1800 block of Brussels near Upton Avenue.

The teenager was pronounced dead at the scene and was identified by Lucas County Coroner’s Office as Royce Chatman, who was about to be 15 on April 15. According to the outlet, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
