According to the Associated Press, "9 to 5" singer Dolly Parton and her Smoky Mountain businesses raised $700,000 to help Middle Tennessee residences who were impacted by the flooding this August.

The flooding resulted in at least 22 deaths and catastrophic damage to over 500 homes and 50 businesses as the area experienced 17 inches of rain in less than 24 hours.

Included in the death toll was country singer Loretta Lynn's ranch foreman, Wayne Spears. The "Dear Uncle Sam" singer penned a heartful tribute for her late foreman shortly after his passing.

Lynn shared her ranch's official statement about Spears' passing and wrote that her family and ranch staff were heartbroken by his death as the singer expressed:

Following the flooding, Lynn joined the relief efforts to raise money to rebuild the affected parts of the community. The "Fist City" singer put together a concert, "Loretta Lynn's Friends Hometown Rising," to raise funds.

Lynn called on her country singer friends to pitch in with the relief efforts. A few of the musicians who performed for the benefit concert included Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, and Trisha Yearwood.

Lynn's fundraising efforts also raised a very substantial amount of money for the Humphreys County flood relief.

The funds were raised for United Way of Humphreys County. According to AP, Parton made her decision to donate to the organization at the suggestion of Lynn.

Parton was compelled to help in the efforts after all the support the Smokies received during and following the 2016 Sevier County wildfires. The "Jolene" singer said of her donation:

"I hope that this money can be put to good use to help the people of Middle Tennessee with what they need during their recovery."

Lynn's fundraising efforts also raised a very substantial amount of money for the Humphreys County flood relief. Almost a month after the floods, Lynn shared they had raised almost $1 million.

According to the United Way of Humphreys County's website, the money raised helped provide immediate and long-term assistance to the victims of the flooding.

It is empowering to see country singers and famous artists, such as Parton and Lynn, giving to a community that was so badly affected by a natural disaster.

Besides giving back to her community, the legendary singer was recently honored by the music industry as Rolling Stones named Lynn's song, "The Coal Miner's Daughter," the 255th greatest song ever.
