During a race, Eric Domingo Roldan pushed himself to the limits and beat the Guinness World Record with his mother, Silvia Roldan.

On October 7, 2021, the marathon at the Zurich Marato in Barcelona, Spain, saw over 15,000 runners from 120 participating countries.

Among them was Eric, who pushed his mom in a wheelchair to raise awareness for her condition, multiple sclerosis.

In 2 hours, 53 minutes, and 28 seconds, they were able to make it to the finish line. In a sweet Instagram post showing Eric kissing his mom on the cheek, he shared:

“I have no words, it’s probably the best [day] of my life. We had [a] dream and we did it. But, as always, we weren’t alone.”

Eric credited his family, friends, and kind persons for the overwhelming support they gave the mother and son during the special day.

Previously, Eric organized a campaign, #42kmcorriEMdo, to raise over $3,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.

“This is for my MOM,” he said. “This is for MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS.” Eric ran for 26 miles and had an average speed of 4:07 per kilometer.

This marathon was not the first time Eric raced alongside his mother. Last year, the duo tried to break the world record in Seville but finished two minutes later than the required time. He said:

“I made myself a promise: that this record would be named after my mother and multiple sclerosis.”

Silvia, 58, was first diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 21 years ago. At that time, Eric was only seven years old. He has since become an advocate for the condition and hopes to raise awareness.

Breaking the world record is certainly no easy feat for an ordinary person, but it seemed much more feasible for tennis superstar Serena Williams. Williams is a ten-time Guinness World Record holder, placing her among the greatest athletes in history.
