Colin Farrell Makes Rare Comment about Kids: He Raises Son with Special Needs Who Shows 'Heroism'

Colin Farrell thinks his 20 years of work in Hollywood is nonsense compared to becoming a father.

The actor raises a teenage son who can't speak and care for himself due to his rare, incurable disorder.
Colin Farrell might be a big Hollywood star with two decades of work in the industry, but his most significant focus has always been on his children. The actor had two boys, James, 19, in September 2022, and Henry, 12, in March 2022.
The "After Yang" star had his oldest son with his ex-girlfriend Kim Bordenave and the youngest with fellow actor Alicja Bachleda-Curús. On December 10, 2022, Colin spoke in an interview about the most influential films to him.

When the actor did "In Bruges," James had just been born, and his brother wasn't even an idea yet. However, their father noted how the film had given him his sons and his mother a husband.
He also noted how the first significant movie in his life was "Ondine," where he met Henry's mother, who appeared as his co-star. The star joked his mother, her husband, and happiness came in second place where they belonged on the scale of important things.

Colin was a bit emotional when he spoke of how the movies connected him to his children and what they meant. Compared to being a father, he felt his 20 years of work was "nonsense," and taking care of James and his brother was one of the essential things in his life.
How Does Colin Care For His Older Son with Special Needs?
Being a loving and doting father to his sons, Colin always wanted to do what was best for them, no matter the circumstances. In 2021, he and Bordenave filed for conservatorship of the then-17-year-old James. The former couple asked the court to allow them to legally manage his requirements when he turned 18.
The teenager was going to turn 18 on September 12, 2021, and the filing his parents did was because he had Angelman Syndrome. The genetic disorder caused "developmental delays" and "disabilities."

The disorder also affected the nervous system, and court documents noted how James was also "nonverbal" and had problems with his fine motor skills. The teenager was also unable to provide for his well-being and health.
Colin, 46 in late 2022, wasn't ashamed of having a child with special needs, and in 2017, he openly gave other parents in the same position some advice. The star urged the parents to reach out and know they weren't alone.
He acknowledged how struggling with a special needs child could be "brutal" as they tore at the fabric of your heart. However, the actor had some words of encouragement, stating:
"But the love shared and the pure strength and heroism observed is the needle and thread that mends all tears."
His touching advice came into effect when it came to raising James. The teenager's rare and incurable neuro-genetic disorder also caused impaired balance and seizures and was often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy or autism.
