Nick Fury Working For Skrulls, Jude Law's A Secret Villain And Many More In Our 'Captain Marvel' Trailer Detailed Breakdown
The first trailer of the new MCU movie, Captain Marvel, has been released. We will not be able to enjoy the film until March 2019, but many of us considered that Marvel Studios had delayed a bit the marketing of it. Captain Marvel will take a step back in the general story of Thanos and will allow us to understand better the past of all the characters, their first confrontations with aliens and the events that led us to that fateful end of Avengers: Infinity War. Here we present the main points of this trailer and its meaning.
30. Captain Marvel falls to earth
The Captain Marvel's trailer opens with a big explosion in space, and Carol Danvers is falling to Earth after seeing her spaceship destroyed. We can see that she seems to come from an escape pod, but it is not very clear if this is an accident or not.
29. The Blockbuster store reveals the year
Marvel pointed out that the film takes place in the 90s, and this clip shows a Blockbuster store in the foreground to finish reaffirming the time in which the plot unfolds. We could say that Capitan America arrived at the peak of that decade.
28. Carol Danvers is a renegade soldier
The voice-over of Samuel L. Jackson tells us that war is a universal language and that he is capable of recognizing a renegade soldier when he sees one. This is a crucial line of dialogue that reveals that Carol conflicts with both the Skrulls and Kree Starforce. She is a renegade.
27. Carol Danvers and SHIELD
Previously we had seen images of Danvers dressed in civilian with a SHIELD cap. In the trailer, we can see her walking through what looks like a SHIELD facility with this outfit, and the fingerprint scanner reveals that, even at that time, SHIELD was far ahead of its time.
26. Experimenting with a Skrull
Everything seems to indicate that something serious is happening in SHIELD: The following scene reveals an autopsy to one of the shapeshifting Skrulls, so we assume that this happens after their first confrontation. This seems to occur in a PEGASUS installation, a joint venture between SHIELD and NASA.
25. First contact with the Skrulls or Kree
A quick take-over reveals a human aircraft flying into the atmosphere, heading to a strange spacecraft. The design of the human ship reminds us of the Bus, which makes sense because Coulson said its model was used a lot during this time. The ship seems to be Kree because we see Ronan inspecting the planet.
24. Carol Danvers suffers from amnesia
The film will start with Danvers believing she is a Kree soldier; Upon arriving on Earth, she will discover that her memories have been altered and will struggle to recover her past and understand how she became a warrior of the Kree Starforce, which has a strong precedent in the character's original comic.
23. The Kree Homeworld of Hala
The trailer also shows us the first look at Hala's Kree Homeworld. Although we had already heard of this planet in Guardians of the Galaxy, it had never been seen in its entirety. Its architecture adapts to what we know of both Guardians of the Galaxy and the TV spinoff series "Agents of SHIELD."
22. Carol Danvers as a pilot
Reaching Earth seems to have triggered Carol's memories, and she begins to struggle to make sense of what she sees in her mind. Several retrospective scenes show Danvers' past as a pilot, which we know forms an essential part of the character in the comics, and hopefully will do the same here.
21. Maria Rambeau
During these flashes of her time as a pilot, we can see Carol walking alongside Lashana Lynch's character, Maria Rambeau. Maria can be very important in revealing Carol's real memories. Also, Maria's daughter becomes a superhero, so it would not be strange to see her soon in the MCU.
20. The Danvers training
The rest of the flashbacks show the character's childhood, and then her exercises as part of the US Air Force. The scenes remind us a lot of Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, so it is an intelligent tribute that indicates that Danvers will define the MCU post-Phase 3, as Captain America did.
19. Captain Marvel in danger
One of the most peculiar moments of the trailer is an upside-down shot of Carol immobilized while a laser hits her head. We can assume that this is a crucial moment in the film in which the Kree try to implant false-memories because this scene is followed by shots of Carol working with the Starforce.
18. The Kree Starforce
We will also have a glimpse of the Starforce in action. An elite unit of warriors assembled by the unidentified commander of Jude Law. Starforce are all characters that are traditionally enemies of Carol Danvers in comics, of which we will highlight Minn-Erva as it is probably important for the plot.
17. The character of Jude Law
So far we only know that the mysterious commander of Jude Law is the "male protagonist" of Captain Marvel because they don't explain much about him in the preview. This has led to speculation that Law will play Yon-Rogg, a brutal Kree warlord who conspired with Ronan the Accuser.
16. Whole life as a pilot
One of the quickest montages of Carol's life shows a series of scenes that show how she goes from being a girl pretending to fly to a pilot in a jet. In this way, they show that the connection between the hero and her past as a solid bond, and they present Danvers as someone driven and with clear dreams.
15. Danvers in space before becoming Captain Marvel
All MCU films are very cosmic, and this will not be an exception in Capital Marvel. The last scene of her montage as a pilot shows her in some kind of jet with a backdrop of stars. Based on technology, we would say that this was her first flirtation with space and her desire to explore it.
14. From "her" to "hero"
The argument that female superhero movies do not work was shattered last year with the release of Wonder Woman, and although Marvel will not be the pioneer, they want to emphasize that Captain Marvel is the first MCU movie starring a female superhero.
13. A look at the Skrulls
Captain Marvel will present a terrifying threat to the MCU, the alien shifter race known as the Skrulls. The trailer tells us that they have begun to infiltrate the Earth under the direction of Talos, who used his powers to infiltrate organizations like SHIELD but does not reveal much about them.
12. Captain Marvel hits an old woman
The Skrulls do not appear only in that small part of the trailer. One of the most disconcerting moments is when we see Carol hitting a random old woman. However, she seems to think that the old lady is Skrull and this could trigger all the persecution we saw earlier.
11. Starforce goes to the planet Torfa
The story presents us with a Starforce mission to the planet Torfa, a world created by Captain Marvel's legendary scribe, Kelly Sue DeConnick, following the trail of a missing spy. This event seems to indicate that it will be during this mission that Starforce will discover the invasion of Skrull to Earth.
10. Ronan, the Accuser
The actor, Lee Pace, takes on the role of Ronan the Accuser, making this a story that can serve as the base for the villain of the Guardians of the Galaxy. Ronan is a significant figure in comics that unfortunately has not been developed to its full potential, let's hope Captain Marvel gives him the opportunity to do so.
9. The young Phil Coulson
Agent Coulson of Clark Gregg played a vital role in Phase 1 of the MCU, and Captain Marvel's film will allow us to know the background story that led him to be such a memorable character. We will also see the first encounter between Fury and Coulson, which seems to be a nice situation according to Gregg's words.
8. The original Fury pager
If we remember the Post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War we will see Nick Fury sending a desperate message to Captain Marvel, even when his body disappeared. This is the same pager, although with fewer modifications. Now the question is, why did not Fury use it before to request the help of Danvers?
7. Starforce in action
The trailer indicates that Starforce will play a key role in Captain Marvel due to the number of scenes in which we see them involved. The exciting thing about this scene is that, from the lighting and air bubbles, it seems to be an underwater scene in which we will see a unique and different action from the one expected by the fans.
6. A look at Captain Marvel's hairstyle
This interpretation of Captain Marvel is very attached to the ideas of Kelly Sue DeConnick. In 2012, DeConnick worked with artist Jamie McKelvie to dramatically redesign the costumes of Carol Danvers, and McKelvie imagined Carol's outfit with a retractable helmet that allowed us to see a mohawk sticking out from the top.
5. The origin of the Captain
As in the comics, Carol Danvers gets her formidable powers after being exposed to the strange radiation of a Kree device known as Psyche-Magnetron that exploded near her. Interestingly, the explosion effects suggest that she may have been exposed to the energy of the Quantum Kingdom, such as Ant-Man.
4. The helmet of Captain Marvel
In the next scene, we see more carefully the Kree headpiece that is part of the iconography of the character since Mar-Vell had the mantle, and has been reimagined in many ways over the years. The helmet of this film returns to the classic version and works perfectly with the green suit.
3. A whole life of struggle
According to the images of the trailer, Captain Marvel has a straightforward characteristic feature, but that makes her very powerful: No matter how many times she falls, Danvers gets up again. She does not give up in any situation, and this sequence shows that impressively and effectively.
2. The real villain of Captain Marvel
The montage of images shows Carol clenching her fist in front of a mysterious villain. The dress seems to indicate that it is Kree, while the skin color makes us think that it is the character played by Jude Law, which would reaffirm the theory that it is Yon-Rogg after all.
1. The great powers of Captain Marvel
Carol Danvers has been described as one of the MCU's most powerful heroes to date. "Her powers are out of the ordinary," Kevin Feige said, "and when we introduce her, she will be by far the strongest character we've ever had." The trailer shows in the final scenes dazzling energy that confuses Carol's body and makes us think of her "Binary" form.
We can not help but get excited to see this preview, and we are sure that many of you have seen it several times to be able to perceive all the details. Captain Marvel's film promises to be one of the best MCU's to date, and the quality of the actors and the production team behind it makes us think that it will be remembered for many years as a milestone in the history of the movies of superheroes.
