Video of toddler enjoying ride in car seat strapped to the back of tortoise went viral in 2018
The video of a baby girl riding on top of a big tortoise’s shell while sitting in her car seat went viral. Some people considered it was cruel.
In the short clip, the girl, named Harlynn, appeared sitting in a car seat that was strapped to the shell of the animal.
The person recording, who is very likely to be the father, told the baby to say “hi” to her mother, and the girl waves at the camera a couple of times.

One of the most interesting aspects of the video was that, despite the extra weight of the seat and the baby, the tortoise apparently was not struggling. According to Daily Mail, the “tortoise ride” took place in Parkland, Florida.
The user who posted it on Internet set clear that it was a “family getting together to witness their child enjoying a ride on top of one of the tortoises we were selling.” It is unknown whether or not the animal was injured during the recording.
While the family recording the clip probably didn’t mean to hurt the tortoise, some people considered that such a thing was negative. A Twitter user set clear that the parent who did that should be ashamed.
Others pointed out that the clip was not adorable but stupid and even labeled it as “animal abuse.” Finally, a person set clear that tortoises carry salmonella, so even if the animal was not hurt, there was the possibility that Harlynn could contract the disease.
Despite all the negative comments, it is not the first time that a video of a young child riding a tortoise goes viral. USA Today uploaded a clip in 2017 showing a “cowboy toddler” on top of one.

In that clip, the boy, named Ryett Powers, was wearing boots, blue jeans, a plaid shirt, and a cowboy hat while sitting on top of a large tortoise, named Jorge, that was carrying a saddle on it.
The video has gathered more than 12 million views and 16 thousand comments. Even though most people found it “cute,” some others pointed out all the negative aspects pointed out in Harlynn’s video.
