Ice-T Pays Homage to ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Creator as the Show Is Renewed for Season 21

Making TV history in the process, NBC renewed “Law & Order: Special Victim Unit” for its 21st season. Star Tracy Lauren Marrow, better known by his stage name “Ice-T”, paid homage to the series on his social media page.

Ice-T showed his gratitude towards the creators of the show as well as the fans in his Instagram post.

“SVU has been OFFICIALLY picked up for season #21. Making us the longest running drama in Television History! Respect to the man Dick Wolf, NBCUniversal, Mariska, Kelli Giddish, Peter Scanavino, Philip Winchester and all my past and present Cast and Crew! And definitely ALL the fans!” he wrote.

In a statement, co-chairmen of NBC Entertainment expressed their happiness and gratitude over the news.

"We tip our cap to [creator/executive producer] Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay and the amazing cast and crew of SVU, who now all go into the record book. This incredible run is an example of what happens when producers, writers, and actors all come together and create a show that, year after year, speaks to its audience in a powerful way. We couldn't be more proud of this remarkable achievement."

Fans are ecstatic over the announcement as the TV drama is becoming the longest-running live-action primetime series in American TV history. Currently, SVU’s parent show “Law & Order” holds the record of 20 seasons. The hit series aired from 1990 to 2010.

Mariska Hargitay, executive producer, star, and director, will also extend her role as Lt. Olivia Benson, who is the longest-running female character in a live-action premier series. She won an Emmy for lead actress in drama in 2006 with eight nominations for the award.

The hit American legal drama has racked up 452 episodes till date while the original series “The Law & Order” franchise has produced over 1,100 TV episodes. The series currently airs on Thursday nights at 10 PM.
