Friends and family of music legend Janet Jackson surprised her on Sunday with a party to celebrate her 53rd birthday in Las Vegas, where she’s currently enchanting audiences with her “Metamorphosis” residence.
Janet Jackson’s birthday couldn’t pass without a proper party, and her nephew Austin Brown, and some of her closest friends made sure to give the singer an unforgettable party to commemorate another year around the sun.
On Sunday, the singer was surprised with an intimate but fun birthday bash in which Questlove had DJ duties, and fellow performers Ciara and Teyana Taylor showed off their best dance moves —including some voguing— on the dance floor.
Later on, rapper Lil Kim took the stage to entertain the attendees, and Janet enjoyed every second of her performance. Doug E. Fresh, Teddy Riley, and Jhonny Gill and many more were also at the party.

Janet kicked off her “Metamorphosis” show on May 17, one day after her actual birthday.
The highly anticipated residency was described in a press release back in February as a show that “peels back the layers of the immensely private life of Janet Jackson, sharing her transformation from a young girl with issues of self-esteem to global Icon.”
The show also includes a special 30th-anniversary celebration of her ground-breaking album “Rhythm Nation.”
Since then, Jackson has extended her stay through August, for the delight of many fans who weren’t able to grab tickets for the first round of the shows.
According to Page Six, on her opening night, Janet told the crowd:
“I made my debut when I was seven years old, right here in Las Vegas. And the beautiful thing about it is it was at the MGM Grand Hotel with my brothers and sisters. It’s so amazing how things come full circle . . . so beautiful.”
She also stated that her “ultimate metamorphosis” was giving birth to son Eissa, 2. “I love that I never gave up the one dream that meant more. I see this as my ultimate metamorphosis,” she said in a VCR before ending the show with her newest single “Made for Now.”
That same night, Jackson celebrated the start of her residency a VIP after-party at the MGM’s On the Record speakeasy and club, alongside famous friend Queen Latifah, Eve, Johnny Gill, Carrie Ann Inaba, Gabrielle Union and longtime producer Jimmy Jam.
Jackson is expected to release a new album this year. She signed with Paradigm for representation in all areas in November.
