T.I. Is All Smiles as He Receives First-Ever ASCAP Voice of the Culture Award
Famous rapper and father, Tip “T.I.” Harris took to social media to express his happiness and gratitude at being honored with the ASCAP awards.
T.I. is an American rapper and actor; he is also popularly known as one of the rappers who popularized the hip-hop subgenre Trap music.
ASCAP recently celebrated its incredible list of hitmakers at the 34th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Music Awards which was held in Los Angeles.
The event recognized The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers’ special honorees and the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed ASCAP songs of the previous year on the R&B/hip-hop, rap, and gospel charts.
Among the Artists acknowledged with the award wasTip “T.I.” Harris, who received his first ASCAP “Voice of the Culture Award” after Angela Rye introduced him. The award is said only to be presented to an ASCAP member who has had a vital influence on music and culture.
T.I, happy as he was had this to say while giving his acceptance speech:
“I have always said that our culture is our greatest asset…I am a proud product of it and a fearless protector of it.”
Aside from his musical achievements, T.I. also plays an active role in the philanthropic and community transformation efforts through his non-profit organization, “Harris Community Works (HCW).”
The 38-year-old rapper’s joy could not be contained as he took to Instagram to express his happiness and joy at being honored with the award with a beautiful image featuring him with a broad smile and his little daughter with her almost regal wave to the crowd.
“Honored to have been presented the inaugural (first one ever) @ascap ASCAP ‘Voice of The Culture’ award. A pleasure to share this moment,” his caption read, “Times like these boggle me because I never thought I’d live to see days like this. Won’t he do it!!!! #USorELSE.”
T.I was not the only one honored with an award that night, female rap sensation, Cardi B also bagged the trophy for Songwriter of the Year for the first time in her career. According to The Grio News, the award recognized her as a songwriter who has “written or co-written the greatest number of most-performed songs of the year.”
Recognizing her talents and commending her for it, T.I posted a picture which featured his wife, Tameka, himself, Cardi B, and her lover Offset, congratulating them on the awards they received: “Congratulations to da homies,” he said.
Being a man who takes his ties with friends sober, T.I. recently spoke about his late friend Nipsey Hussle, who according to him, wasn't just a musician, but also a leader and teacher.
"He was our blessing, and he inspired people across the world while never abandoning the community and culture that raised him," he said in a speech he gave at the recently concluded BET awards.
From his emotional speech, it is obvious T.I will not forget Nipsey Hussle anytime soon, will you?
