Single Foster Dad Lamont Thomas Adopts 5 Siblings under the Age of Five to Keep the Family Together

Long-time foster father Lamont Thomas decided to adopt five siblings under five years of age so they can stay together.

As reported by CBS Evening News, Thomas spent many years fostering children. Even after he chose to quit fostering, he still wanted to help other people and made a change he didn't anticipate.

In 2001, the father-of-two took on a foster child named Michael Perez and in the long run, he decided to adopt him.

MORALS HE INSTILLED

Currently, Micheal works as a nurse and is very grateful to Thomas for adopting him.

According to Micheal, he doesn't believe that he'd be the person that he is right now without the ethics that Thomas taught in him and the extended family that he has now.

Michael was only the start. Thomas fostered over 30 children in New York and adopted five of them throughout the following 15 years.

ADOPTING MORE CHILDREN

The divorced father said that he had no other aspirations for the children he cared for and adopted but to make a difference in their lives.

Thomas is now back in the game. Recently, he added five additional children to his family when he adopted Zendaya, Jamel, Nakia, Major, and Macaela, who are under the age of five, as reported by People.

Thomas kidded that extending his family with the energy of little children implies he is "come out of retirement."

In an interview with Good Morning America, Thomas said, "I was fighting to keep back the tears. Every day I think about it, my eyes swell up. All that we endured to make this happen, it was something."

Thomas added, "In the beginning, I was helping out some friends. They had lost their child to the system. I went on and got certified and became a foster parent. I haven't stopped since."

He originally learned of the siblings' situation because their father was one of the numerous Thomas once fostered.

The siblings had been separated for over 18 months before Thomas swooped in two years ago.

Thomas told NBC affiliate WGRZ that he had to fight close to two-and-a-half years just to be able to get them together, and they won.

Zendaya, Jamel, Nakia, Major, and Michaela joined Thomas' other children, twins Germayne and Tremayne, Jamie, German, and Michael, as well as his biological children Anthony and LaMonica.
