Tense situations can arise between grieving family members. So, when one identical twin lost the other, the funeral turned into an ugly affair for different reasons - depending on which family member gives their perspective.
Looking for an outside perspective, a 24-year-old man took to social media after his brother's funeral when he basically got shunned by the rest of his family. For the sake of the article, let's call him Tim.
I'M NOT GOING ANYWHERE
Tim's brother was also his identical twin, and he died in a motorcycle crash that left their mother inconsolable and their dad doing his best to be there for her.
For a breath of fresh air, before the funeral began, Tim went outside to smoke a cigarette when his aunt approached him and spoke about how badly she felt for Tim's parents. However, the conversation soon took a downward turn as he recalled what she said:
"But then she was like, “Do you think it’s really appropriate for you to be here?”
WHY SHE DENIED HIS MOURNING
The aunt's comment left Tim rather confused. He had done nothing wrong, but then the moment of clarity came when his aunt added:
“With you two being identical twins, it must be like seeing a ghost. I really think you should leave, it might make this easier on your mom.”
THINGS GOT WORSE
To say that the aunt's comment left him stunned would be an understatement. Livid, Tim retaliated with a few choice words, and it's at that point that his father walked into the situation. Since the aunt is Tim's father's sister, he didn't take kindly to the words cussed at his sister, so he wasn't open to hearing Tim's side of the story at the time.
Even so, Tim refused to leave, and he participated in the day's proceedings while the aunt completely ignored him. Tim's cousins are not speaking to him either, and when he talked to his dad a few days later, the situation came up again.
After Tim explained himself, his father didn't respond to his side of the story besides telling him that he didn't need to make a scene at his brother's funeral.
Netizens were shocked at the turn of events for several reasons. Tim's only perceived crime is that he looks exactly like his brother - a brother he lost and needs, and has every right to mourn as well.
Tim is the immediate family while the aunt is not, and others pointed out that she had no right to decide who should or shouldn't attend the funeral. Twins share a special bond, and Tim needs support as much as the rest of his family.
SOMETIMES WEDDINGS TURN TRAGIC TOO
Another gathering where tense family situations often play out in one way or another is weddings. From problematic seating arrangements to brides or their mothers that turn into frightening creatures and everything in between, weddings have it all.
However, in a related daily story, one bride had the comments stream in after she explained how she made sure not to exclude her autistic nephew from her wedding.
