Camilla, Queen Consort, openly accepted Duchess Meghan when she joined the Royal Family. However, Camilla's attitude changed when Meghan figuratively stepped on her toes.

When Duchess Meghan was initially introduced to Prince Harry's family, she built bonds with several people. In Andrew Morton's unauthorized biography "Meghan: A Hollywood Princess," he claimed the new royal clicked with her father-in-law King Charles III.

The pair allegedly bonded over their interests in classical music, sustainable organic food, and architecture. Harry's wife also built a link with her mother-in-law, Camilla, Queen Consort.

According to Morton, the duo allegedly "shared a love of fine wine and yoga." When Meghan's engagement to Harry was announced in November 2017, Camilla told reporters:

"America’s loss is our gain. We are all absolutely delighted.”

It's possible that Camilla, the Queen Consort, felt a bond with Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex because they'd both been married and divorced once before. Perhaps, she thought they shared common ground, but things changed as time went by.

MEGHAN WAS "ACCEPTED" BY CAMILLA AT FIRST

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex married in Windsor at St. George's Chapel, with the late Queen, King Charles III, and his wife in attendance. The newlyweds attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace a few days later to honor Prince Harry's father on his 70th birthday.

According to the Mirror, as Camilla and King Charles III left celebrations on May 22 in 2018, she grabbed Meghan's hand, spoke to her then kissed her goodbye.

Morton described the moment in his biography as a rare gesture to the Royal Family's newest addition. The author said that it revealed how Meghan was "accepted and treated with genuine affection" by Camilla and the Royal Family.

Morton shared that Charles' wife showed the world that Harry's wife was now one of them. However, a gray cloud was just around the corner, and things were about to change drastically in a few years.

CAMILLA'S FEELINGS FOR MEGHAN STARTED COOLING DOWN

Meghan allegedly broke a pledge not to overshadow Camilla's long-planned speech on domestic violence. According to the Mirror, in March 2020, the Duchess of Sussex insisted on having her photos taken at the National Theatre; and released on the same day her mother-in-law gave her speech.

The publication claimed the former Duchess of Cornwall was "very upset" by this move. Camilla had allegedly been planning London's 10th anniversary of the Women of the World Festival address for almost a year, with a source stating:

"...It was known Harry and Meghan would be doing engagements this week... but everyone was in agreement that Camilla’s speech should take precedence. Unfortunately, some people had other ideas.”

According to The Sun's February 2022 article, Tom Bower, a royal biographer, contradicted reports by claiming Meghan and Camilla had never seen eye to eye. Bower said Charles' wife, who's allegedly called Harry's wife "ungrateful," had been "suspicious" of Meghan's intentions.

The biographer alleged Camilla had chosen to keep her opinions about the Duchess of Sussex to herself after being brought into the family by Harry. At the late Queen's address marking her Accession Day, it was announced that she wished Charles' wife to be known as Queen Consort when he became King.

Bower noted how Harry and his wife never said anything about it, and he thought it was "deliberate" and an "insult" to the Royal Family. He speculated that the couple's silence was somehow Harry's wife's way of declaring war.

Bower said there was a belief that Meghan never really liked Camilla, and the feeling was mutual. The Queen Consort allegedly felt distrustful of the former actress from Los Angeles from the get-go.

She reportedly found it difficult to believe the former "Suits" actress would give up her independence and career to serve and be devoted to the Royal Family quietly. The final blow came in early 2020.

However, it was not only Charles’ relationship with his son that was tarnished, but the one that once existed between Camilla and Meghan as well.

STEPPING DOWN FROM SENIOR ROYAL FAMILY ROLES

In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex left the world and Harry's family reeling when they announced a significant change in their place in the Royal Family. They said they were both stepping down as senior royals, which the media dubbed Megxit.

The couple initially moved to Canada at the start of the pandemic, and then they promptly relocated to Meghan's native country of the US. The duo settled and bought themselves a house in California.

When they moved to California, Harry and Meghan were already parents to their son Archie. The couple is now parents to two children with their daughter Lilibet, born in the US.

The media has primarily focused on the tense relationship between Harry and his father. The Duke of Sussex has since revealed some damning allegations about the lack of parenting from his father.

A few months after Harry moved to the US, he claimed the Royal Family had cut him, his wife, and his son off financially. He said he felt his father had let him down by not showing up for him.

The Mirror revealed that a royal insider later came forward with claims that Megxit had caused a damaging irreversible rift. The source said the bond between Harry and his father had been sullied.

However, it was not only Charles's relationship with his son that was tarnished but the one that once existed between Camilla and Meghan. Speaking to the Telegraph, the insider said they didn't think the former Duchess of Cornwall "will ever forgive" Meghan.

The lack of forgiveness wasn't wholly directed to Camilla herself, but more about what the Duchess of Sussex had done to her husband, King Charles III. She allegedly couldn't help but feel disappointed in Harry and Meghan.

During a January 2020 event, when Camilla was asked if she'd miss the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, she paused and took a moment, clearly taken aback by the question. Then responded with "hmmm" before saying "course."
