HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Catherine was the second-youngest of seven siblings. Her father worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway, and her mother was an incredible mimic and storyteller. She realized that she could have a future in comedy when her brother brought home his girlfriend, who happened to be the comedy legend, Gilda Radner.

Gilda was cast in the premiere comedy club called "Second City," Catherine worked as a waitress there and got to see her every night. Catherine said that Gilda opened her eyes to the possibility of having a comedy career and thanked her for showing her that she could be silly for a living.

She also successfully replaced Gilda in the cast when she left for New York while the company was playing in "Chicago." Taking after her mother in her impressions, Catherine joined the cast of SCTV, where her impressions on the show ranged from Meryl Streep to Brooke Shields to Lucille Ball. She won an Emmy for writing for the program in 1982.

As one of seven children, Catherine recalled a moment when her parents forgot her sister, actress, and singer, Mary Margaret O'Hara, in the stress of moving from one house to another. This event was reminiscent of Catherine's most famous movie, "Home Alone."

DATING HER CO-STAR

Almost 40 years after she won her first Emmy Award, she starred in a comedy so successful that it broke the record for the most awards in a single season. She starred alongside Eugene Levy, who also worked with his son Daniel. Together, the father-son duo created Schitt's Creek.

In 2020 Catherine and Eugene revealed that they dated for a short while in the past. A fan asked if it was true that they dated on an Andy Cohen show, and Catherine answered, saying, "So, everybody at Second City theater tried to date everybody. Like, He makes me laugh. I should go out with him ... So, we did maybe one or two dates."

Nothing came of the pair romantically, but they remained close friends even after their romantic relationship. Catherin described Eugene as a gentleman and added that they could have a close and successful working relationship because their romantic relationship didn't go anywhere.

SMITTEN BY THE LOVE OF HER LIFE

Before casting Delilah, the talentless sculptor on "Beetlejuice," Catherine featured in minor roles in a series of films. Catherine constantly asked director Tim Burnam about a handsome crew member, Bo Welsh, during the filming. He didn't ask her out at first, but Catherine got Tim's help to ask Bo out.

After Tim put in a good word for her to Bo, they became committed very quickly. "We went on location at the movie's end, and we started dating. I moved to L.A. to be with him," Catherine said. She added that she put her career aside and moved to L.A. for love. The pair got married in 1992 and have been together for almost 30 years.

Bo also echoed similar sentiments. While making the film "Beetlejuice," he said that they all had fun and didn't have the pressure of big studios breathing down their necks. He added:

"So, all of that was great. My memories of Beetlejuice are very fond, of course. Not to mention, I met my wife [Catherine O'Hara], who was in it."

MEET HER HUSBAND OF 30 YEARS

Bo was born on November 30, 1951, and was raised in Yardley, Pennsylvania. He has worked as a production designer for hit films like "Men in Black," "Land of the Lost," "Ghostbusters II," "Wild Wild West" and many more films. He has been nominated for four Academy Awards for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration.

Bo and Catherine have appeared at numerous red carpet events together. Bo has publicly supported his actress wife, which was more apparent at the Golden Globe Awards in 2021. Bo played applause and "wrap it up" music on his phone — presumably to create an awards show ambiance. Still, the audio created static which made the whole moment chaotic but adorable.

PROUD PARENTS OF 2 KIDS

The couple shares two sons, Matthew Welch and Luke Welch, born in 1994 and 1997. Catherine revealed that both of her kids worked on the set of Schitt's Creek. The outlet reported that one of her sons was employed as a set dresser and another in set construction, though it's unclear exactly which son did what.

Catherine also reported that despite being a present mother while the children were young, now she constantly wonders what her children are up to. She added that she envied her "Schitt's Creek" character for being close to her kids. "I'm always wondering where my kids are," she said.

Despite having famous parents, Matthew and Luke have chosen to remain out of the spotlight, choosing quieter and more discreet lives. They have also inherited their mother's comedic talent, and Catherine said that she and her husband encourage their kids to exercise their comedic muscles. "I'm proud to say we all make each other laugh," she said.
