Jane Seymour Was Blessed with Twins after She Nearly Died Trying to Gift Husband a Child in Her 40s

Oscar-winning actress Jane Seymour has been through some highs and lows but manages to still top the game in motherhood and Hollywood. The actress nearly died following the birth of her twins to her fourth husband.

"The Wedding Crashers" star Jane Seymour has had many failed marriages, but she remains a loving mother to her kids throughout the heartbreaks.

Seymour's motherhood journey began during her third marriage to business mogul David Flynn. The pair shared two kids, a daughter, and a son, before ending things in 1992.

The following year, she found love in the arms of James Keach. The couple tied the knot in 1993, and this was her last and longest marriage. After marrying Keach, Seymour longed to give him a child, as he had never experienced fatherhood following his past divorces.

At the time, she was in her forties, and it was a huge challenge. The "Live and Let Die" star struggled with maintaining her pregnancies because, at first, the IVF resulted in two miscarriages.

After a few trials, the couple had "almost given up," but they opted for a third, which resulted in three embryos.

Sadly, one embryo never really formed, but they were blessed with two babies, who turned out to be their adorable twin sons, John and Kristopher.

THE MIRACULOUS BIRTH OF JANE SEYMOUR'S TWINS

While speaking on "Loose Women," Seymour claimed that she was aware of the multiple births associated with the process and the complexities for a woman her age.

Still, she was determined to go through with it and never considered that because of her age, it could be dangerous. According to the actress:

"I didn't realize you could lose your life for having baby at that age."

Later in her pregnancy, she was diagnosed with preeclampsia; even though it was a late diagnosis, Seymour was lucky enough to have a successful cesarean surgery that saved her and the babies' lives.

At 45, she became a mother to four kids, with her twin sons joining the family. Following the births, Seymour decided to name them after two famous men, Johnny Cash and Christopher Reeve.

This was because of her friendship with the men. Reeve was aware of her pregnancies, and even before they were born, he loved the babies.

On the other hand, Cash became a close friend to Seymour after they co-starred in "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman." This brought them closer, and the actor asked her to be involved in his biopic, "Walk the Line."

JANE SEYMOUR NEARLY DIED GIVING BIRTH

More than once, Seymour has narrated her near-death experience at childbirth as a 45-year-old. In an interview, the mother-of-four explained that she "nearly died" during childbirth.

Thankfully, she survived and made it home with her boys, but later realized they had come back too early. Her children were still too fragile. She had a scary experience when the smaller twin got sick and began to turn blue. Fortunately, after a few attempts, they revived him.

Seymour admitted that they did not learn to "suck, swallow, and breathe" at the hospital. She added:

"That's the last thing they learn."

After the experience with one of the twins, the actress, and Keach, rushed the babies to the hospital, where she stayed with them for several nights, observing their advancement.

The "The Wedding Crashers" star confessed it was scary seeing her babies strapped to monitors for four months until they had learned to survive.

This experience inspired her to write a book informing women her age of the struggles of twin births. Despite the health of her babies, Seymour had to prepare to return to work three weeks postpartum.

However, she enlisted the help of a person who could monitor her babies, leading her to catch as much sleep as she could.

Seymour's watch continued throughout the four new months of the twins' admission into the hospital. The actress recalled that she was literally on "pins and needles" during those months. She added:

"If they even wriggled, the heart monitor would go off, and somebody would have to be right on top of them and immediately make sure that they were breathing and that they hadn't turned blue."

ADOPTING THE FORMULA FEEDING FOR HER TWINS

Apart from keeping constant tabs on their heartbeats, Seymour struggled with feeding the twins, which also took a toll on her. She fed the boys round the clock, as they wanted to eat consistently, with one eating when the other finished.

This earned her the nickname "Dairy Queen." Still, it did not truly define her, as she could not eat well to produce enough milk for the infants.

Eventually, she opted for formula, which worked like magic when combined with the natural milk. Citing this example, Seymour advises nursing mothers to try options and never be stuck.

Seymour was grateful she managed the situation and had constantly helped women around her, including celebrities like Angelina Jolie, to understand the peculiarities and struggles of having twins.

In 2008, before the "Tomb Raider" actress welcomed her twins, Seymour poured out an impressive measure of advice via a media outlet.

She told an interviewer about her concerns for Jolie. The mother of four thought that it would be better for Jolie to add more weight as it could boost her twins' feeding.

SEYMOUR'S TWINS SHARE AN AMAZING RELATIONSHIP

Seymour's boys shared an invaluable bond from their infancy, as it is with most twins. As they became separable, the boys grew healthier.

As babies, they shared the same crib; they still had the same room when they got older. It was until their teenage years that they slept separately.

The actress described her experience with the boys as an adventure, adding that they sometimes fight but have maintained a close relationship.

Seymour admitted that she taught her two youngest kids that it is vital to keep that unique bond. When speaking about their relationship, the mother of four mentioned:

"There is a bond that twins have that is unspoken and quite formidable."

Seymour also loves goofing around with her boys. In 2007, she confessed that her babies made her play video games, and it stuck as the family's guilty pleasure.

WHERE ARE THE TWINS NOW?

The boys are both 26 years old, and they have different passions. However, John is often seen appearing on red carpets with his mom.

He also featured in the film "Blind Dating." But, for now, John has a career as a rock and roll artist in Nashville. Unlike John, the other twin, Kristopher prefers a quieter, out-of-the-spotlight life. He has appeared on his mother's Instagram page but lives a quiet life with his wife, Miso.

Apart from being a family man, Kristopher has been described as a hardworking fellow and a baseball player by his celebrity mom.

Despite the successes of her young kids, Seymour, who continues to entertain her audience with her impeccable talent as an actress and author, explained she would not call herself a great mom.

While she avoids grading her performance, the award-winning actress confirmed that she has some outstanding life lessons acquired through her motherhood journey, including the births of her two oldest kids.

Undoubtedly, she is a hands-on mom who is very intentional about her choices and ever-ready to communicate with her offspring.

Additionally, Seymour mentioned that she would always choose her family over her career and successes. In her words:

"The kids know I would choose family over any role and anything in my life. I don't know if I'm a great mum. I'm the best mum I know how to be."
