Against all odds, Tyne Daly from "Cagney and Lacey" married Georg Standford Brown at 19. The couple remained inseparable despite the difference in their race until twenty-four years later when Brown quit the marriage.

Six-time Grammy Award winner Tyne Daly has been unwavering in the game since the 1960s. The Hollywood icon was lucky to be born into a family of seasoned actors.

She learned from her dad, James Daly, that acting was a way of life, and once she immersed herself in it, it became an essential part of her existence.

Like many entertainers, Daly's career began in 1967 following her Broadway appearances, but it was not until 1994 that she became a well-known name.

During her quest to succeed in the entertainment industry, Daly crossed paths with Georg Stanford Brown, who became her husband, and they were married for decades.

Brown was an actor and director, but unlike Daly, he did not inherit the acting bug from his parents. However, Brown capitalized on his passion for entertainment.

His parents were poor West Indians who raised their son in Harlem. Thankfully, they encouraged him to have an imaginative mind by exposing him to arts, music, and books. Due to the exposure, Brown became one of the most impressive actors.

He and Daly met at American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Daly had enrolled in the institute due to her privilege, while Brown was there by grace—he was earning money to pay tuition by working as the Academy's janitor.

Daly was 17 when they met. Decades later, she explained that it was love at first sight for her. The actress knew they would end up together once she looked at him, prompting her to introduce herself.

Two years later, the duo got married. At the time, their relationship was not acceptable, as the color of people's skin drove the laws. Still, the pair waxed stronger, and they were able to create a loving family.

DALY AND BROWN'S INTERRACIAL MARRIAGE

Daly and Brown were a brave couple, and as young as they were, they allowed love to take the lead. Unfortunately, when they shared wedding vows, their type of relationship was considered unlawful in seventeen states.

However, as time went on, things changed, and the laws began to change with it. But that did not change people's concerns for the couple, especially close friends and family.

They were wary of the future of the kids from an interracial union. This did not bother the couple, who were aware of the probable dangers their kids would face.

Apart from sharing similar values and beliefs, their marriage stood the test of time because of their personalities. Irrespective of their busy schedules, they worked to advance their union.

Brown was a neat freak; he was also obsessed with organization, loved gardening, and was an epicurean cook.

His wife was free-spirited, brightened the room with her heartiness, handled the kitchen when required, and allowed Brown to call the shots about planting around the house.

They always complemented each other in running the household and were hands-on parents. Even if there were scripts to work on, Brown would share his free time between picking and dropping off the kids from school and fulfilling his household duties.

The pair felt great being a couple and always worked to support each other. When speaking about her marriage, the actress said:

"I'm living with the person I'm in love with, and I have children by the father that I wanted to have the children with."

This did not mean that they did not deal with obstacles inwardly. For example, Daly revealed that she was once jealous of her husband's success during his time on ABC's "The Rookies."

According to her, he went to work regularly and made money, while she was left at home to nurture their babies. Eventually, they worked through it, and it did not strain their marriage.

Brown joked about how they did not need to compete for the same job when it was time to soar in their careers.

Also, the couple did not blame their limitations in careers on race, nor did they think that their differences had damaged their careers.

Regardless of race being a threat during their time, these two were an open book. Daly told a reporter that she knew many interracial Hollywood couples whose relationships were shrouded in secrecy for fear of losing "something invested."

Unlike Brown and his wife, these sets of couples chose to sneak around and put up a charade that would never connect them to their real-life

Brown was a black man who was not oblivious to the dangers his marriage faced, despite his ability to look away.

Although he had confessed his love for Daly, the director professed doubts regarding the longevity of their marriage. He was never certain of their journey to forever but cherished the memories they shared. In his words:

"I don't even know if Tyne and I will be together all our lives. I don't know if that is important."

Unfortunately, after twenty-four years as a couple, with three kids and four grandchildren, Brown's faith in their marriage was shaken up, leading to a divorce.

When he was 50, Daly felt hurt about losing her only marriage. While describing the divorce, the "Judging Amy" actress said her husband "quit me like a fool when he was 50."

Despite it being hard, she believed that it was because of his age. Daly mentioned that when men become 50, they are often horribly scared. She also compared Brown and her brother, Tim, who acted disappointingly at age 50.

The "Cagney and Lacey" star pulled the plug on their marriage, citing irreconcilable differences. Neither party shared more details on the reason for their fallout.

However, following the divorce, the former couple was concerned about the perfect custody arrangement for their young daughters.

The six-time Grammy award winner first became a mother on December 12, 1968, after welcoming her daughter, Alisabeth Douglas Brown.

Her second daughter, Kathryne Dora Brown, arrived on February 10, 1971. Baby number three and the last born, Alexandra Beatris Brown, joined her siblings on October 1, 1985.

Unlike the first two births, Daly was 40 when she had Alexandra. Before the birth of her youngest child, Daly's two daughters felt that their parents "were fools" to consider such a decision.

However, the actress was committed to making them understand, so she coined a suitable explanation. Still, it did not hold much until Kathryne discovered that another celebrity actress, Farrah Fawcett, was pregnant at 37. That was when she decided that it was "okay" for her mother.

Fast forward to the future, and the girls are making their parents proud. The couple's firstborn, Alisabeth, possesses an artistic mind. She is a potter.

Her younger sister, Kathryne, shares the same knack for entertainment as her parents. She fashioned a career in acting. As for Alexandra, she grew up really fast. Daly mentioned being surprised when her youngest daughter shared news of her engagement.

The mother-of-three was happy, and she called Alexandra via Skype, displaying her curiosity about the entire thing. Speaking about motherhood, the "Christy" star is thankful for her chance to be a mother and grandparents to adorable little humans. According to her:

"I am the mother of three grownup children — daughters — and the grandmother of four grandchildren, one of whom is a boy, my one grandson, and that job is a beautiful and noble job. And, I wouldn't trade that for any of the jobs I've done."

Daly confirmed that motherhood could be tasking, but she would choose the role of being a parent over any blockbuster film she had made or a soaring career.

Despite a failed marriage, she remains unmarried and is focused on her family. Daly is also still impressive in the game and has racked up an incredible amount of success as an actress and writer.
