Queen Elizabeth's announcement of her decision to make Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, a Queen became a shock to many royal fans who publicly expressed their thoughts.

This past weekend, the monarch sent royal fans into a frenzy on her Jubilee speech when she announced her backing for Camilla to become Queen once her husband ascended the throne as king.

The royal matriarch made her feelings known in a message for her Accession Day that this year marks the 70th anniversary of her becoming a Monarch, making her the first British monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.

Her Majesty wrote that when her son Prince Charles eventually becomes king, she knows the public would shower him and his wife Camilla the same support that they had given her, adding, "it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her royal service."

The title had long been in question as initially when Camilla married Prince Charles in 2005; it became known that she would be referred to as Princess Consort.

The Royal Family recognized the sensitivity surrounding a title that was destined for his first wife, Princess Diana. It was for the same reason that Camilla does not use the title of Princess of Wales.

The request comes after an earlier era when the tabloids vilified Camilla as the leading cause of divorce in Prince Charles' marriage to the late Princess Diana.

However, following the royal matriarch's recent wish, it shows significance in that the Duchess will be crowned alongside her husband when the time comes.

The Queen made the point when referring to her late spouse Prince Philip, who died in April 2021, noting how blessed she was to have had him in her life.

"I had a partner willing to carry out the role of consort and unselfishly make the sacrifices that go with it," the monarch stated, adding it was the same role she witnessed her mother perform during her father's reign.

Historian and royal commentator Robert Lacey stated that because there had always been questions surrounding Camilla's title once her spouse ascended the throne, now it has been put to rest. According to her, any consent from the Prime Minister of the day for the title would merely be a formality.

Lacey added some people might have thought the Queen would look back over her reign with the message she delivered, but she instead looked forward positively.

The Queen sent out a personal note on Twitter thanking the public and her family for their unwavering support throughout the years, adding she looked forward to the Platinum Jubilee over the coming year.

On February 6, 1952, the Queen's father, King George VI, passed away, and his 25-year-old daughter became the Queen of the British nation.

PRINCE CHARLES' REACTION AND FANS' OPINIONS

The monarch's decision in advocating for 74-year-old Camilla to be future Queen left many fans divided as some supported her choice and the prince's devotion to his wife while others were left angry.

In a statement released on Sunday, February 6, 2022, Prince Charles praised his mother on her successful reign as the Queen of England for seven decades, writing that her dedication to the welfare of all Britons inspired tremendous admiration every year.

At the same time, the 73-year-old complimented his wife following the monarch's wish to make her Queen, saying they were honored by the gesture.

Prince Charles noted: "As we have sought together to serve and support Her Majesty and the people of our communities, my darling wife has been my steadfast support; throughout."

Furthermore, the Prince of Wales wanted Camilla to be Queen against his sons' wishes and subjects for a long time. As such, only 13 percent of Britons believe she should be given the title Queen when he eventually becomes king, according to YouGov polling in May.

It compares to 41 percent who thought she should be called Princess Consort and 28 percent who thought she should have no title at all.

Meanwhile, royal fans have expressed their disapproval of the Duchess of Cornwall becoming Queen one day, taking to Twitter to share their frustrations.

"Camilla as Queen Consort. Absolutely not. I still think Charles won't be king, and I hope he is not," tweeted one person with an angry face emoji.

Another user bluntly said: "The message regarding Camilla is difficult for me to digest. I say, skip Charles go to William; he is greatly respected."

While some do not agree with the Queen, others admired her wish and took to the online platform to share their exhilaration for the decision.

One Twitter user was moved by the Prince of Wales' recognition of his spouse as his strong support system and thanked the royal couple for their service in support of the royal matriarch.

A third said: "I'm sure the Queen's public statement means a lot to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall," adding they both worked hard quietly to support the Queen.

On the other hand, some royal fans expressed their anger about the announcement regarding Camilla becoming Queen. "Camilla is not our queen and never will be!" said one fan.

Another stated the Jubilee event should have just been about the monarch instead of Camilla. "Wrong sentiment. It should have simply been about the Queen and her Jubilee. Selfishly it has become about Camilla."

GROWING FEARS OVER MONARCHY & QUEEN'S HEALTH

In addition to the escalating row, there are growing fears about the monarchy's survival. A Cambridge professor of Political Economy, Helen Thomson, believes that the survival of the House of Windsor is by no means guaranteed once Her Majesty's reign comes to an end.

Thompson said there is constant agitation that hangs over the monarchy's future while explaining there might be havoc once she passes away:

"In that moment, one can sense a shivering fear that the Queen's death may open the path to a troubling future."

Throughout her reign, the Queen has sought to implement the ideals established by her grandfather George V which was the notion of a monarchy based on a dutiful and quiet service.

Thompson argues that the success of Her Majesty's reign poses a problem for her successor, Prince Charles, as he would inherit a crown that has reached a statis under his mother's success.

According to the professor, the royal matriarch has certainly answered what purpose a constitutional monarchy still serves. Thompson said there would never be such sharp counter to republicanism ever again. In addition, she said it would be the Prince of Wales' burden.

Moreover, she stated if people want the monarchy to continue, they would have to consent to leave the age of the royal matriarch behind:

"If we want the monarchy to continue, we will have tacitly to give our consent to leaving the Age of Elizabeth Windsor behind."

Meanwhile, author and journalist Clive Irving told Vanity Fair in an interview last year that he believed there was a real risk that the monarchy would crumble if the prince did not succeed his mother.

At the same time, royal fans are concerned about the Queen's health following her message on her historic Platinum Jubilee. Her Majesty sparked health concerns in the late hours of Saturday, February 5, 2022.

Meanwhile, an analysis run for Bed Kingdom claimed online searches for how the monarch is health-wise in the UK skyrocketed to 1,306 percent that day. It marks an interest in the monarch's health state 13 times higher than the average search volume.

A spokesperson for Bed Kingdom commented on the findings saying the Queen is the most prominent figure in British history, and her words have undoubtedly made headlines worldwide.

The spokesperson continued to state that the royal has always stood by her mantra of never complaining and never explaining; therefore, her statements were thoroughly thought out and incredibly meaningful.

In showing that she is still physically able, the 95-year-old sovereign hosted a tea party in the ballroom at Sandringham House for local charities and moved around the ballroom with the help of a light walking stick.

Nevertheless, the Queen appeared radiant as she conversed with her guests and cracked jokes while cutting a cake bearing the Platinum Jubilee emblem.
