Pink initially met her future husband, Carey Hart, in 2001. The pair met while attending Philadelphia's Summer X Games, with the singer revealing during interviews that she was drawn to Hart because of his bad-boy persona.

Soon enough, the "What About Us" songstress and the motocross racer started dating. However, their relationship failed to last long and ended with the couple going separate ways.

By 2003, Pink and the athlete had concluded their very short relationship. In USA Today's September 2012 piece, the singer explained the reason why she broke up from her boyfriend so soon, stating:

“After you spend a couple of nights in the hospital with him when he's broken, the excitement wears off.”

Despite ending their relationship, in 2005, the couple got back together. The pair had an on-again-off-again type of relationship until the singer took matters into her hands and proposed.

MTV reported that Pink's management confirmed the engagement. Eyewitnesses said the singer held up a sign asking Hart to marry her while attending Mammoth, California's Pro 250 class finals.

According to the Mammoth Times, the songstress wrote her message on a pit board and held it up during the motocross champion's third lap on the race. Her boyfriend continued his lap, leading Pink to write again that she was serious.

That's when the sports star finally pulled off the track and allowed his competitors to go ahead. He went and picked up the singer to give his response, with Pink telling People that she knew she wanted to be with him for the rest of her life after the first few weeks, admitting to USA Today:

"He was never going to ask me because I said no so many times."

The athlete explained that they'd wanted a non-traditional but fun ceremony. Hart said he and his bride weren't religious but spiritual, and their union was about being with their closest family members and friends.

He described their wedding day, Pink wore a Monique Lhuillier gown, as a "very fun and loose party." At their wedding, the famous singer was 26 while the groom was older by four years, aged 30.

The couple seemed happy and content for the next two years until the singer took to her website with a shocking announcement. She revealed to her fans that she and Hart were separating.

Pink said she and her husband still loved each other in her statement. She explained that they weren't separating because of anger, cheating, or fighting, as they were still best friends and would continue being such.

The breakup inspired her 2008 song, "So What." In the track, the artist spoke about losing her husband and not knowing where he went, with the singer confessing to Us Weekly that the song was a "vomiting of truth."

The track was also responsible for the couple's reconciliation after Pink asked him to be in the song's music video. On May 4, 2016, the artist discussed the breakups she's had with Hart on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," stating:

“We take breaks. We’ve had two breaks. The first one was about a year. And the second one was 11 months.”

Pink also admitted that her relationship with her husband "crashed" a few times. However, she said the tough times didn't scare her off because she believed in doing the work in a relationship and didn't feel they were finished with each other.

In a 2013 Redbook interview, the singer said the reason for their separation after marriage was because they were working continuously. He would see her for five days and then be gone for six weeks!

Eleven months after their breakup, Hart asked his wife to fly to Las Vegas for a New Year's Eve performance at his club. She wanted to see him too and got dressed up for the occasion.

After having a sound check, Pink told her husband to come to her room. She presented him with a photo album she'd spent months creating that included all the cards he'd given to her and the photos of their whole relationship.

The last page of the album had a gruesome photo of Pink from a movie she'd done years ago. Next to it, she wrote that it was her without him and on the next page there was an image of a baby.

She wrote next to it, "The rest is unwritten," and their unsigned divorce papers were behind that page. Pink wrote that the rest was up to her husband and left it up to him, leading Hart to confess he wanted to get back together.
