Inside Cousins Kevin Bacon & Kyra Sedgwick's LA Home Where They Live With Their Son for the Last 10 Years

Actor Kevin Bacon and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, have been together for over 30 years. Take a look at their marriage and the $2.5 million Los Angeles pad where they have lived with their son for ten years.

When Kavin Bacon and his wife, Kyra Sedgwick, celebrated 30 years of marriage, their best advice for staying together so long was not to ask celebrities how to make a marriage last.

They also featured on the "Finding Your Roots" television show and discovered that they were related. Kevin first met his wife Kyra in the 1970s while Kevin was doing a play. Kevin was seven years older than Kyra, and she initially wasn't interested in Kevin.

"He definitely wasn't my type. In fact, I vividly remember looking at his butt when he walked away after we first met and thinking, 'Well, I guess some girls like that," Kyra said.

Kevin explained that Kyra was the more messy one earlier in their relationship. But she and Kevin worked to improve themselves their relationship progressed.

"The minute I had a child, I was like, 'God, I want to make sure there's a good place here for him,'" she said. Kevin also mentioned the sacrifices Kyra made for her family.

“She’s made a lot more sacrifices than I’ve made. Kyra felt really strongly that, when she started to have children, she needed to be there for them in many cases, because of the kids, she would make decisions careerwise that weren’t the best for her career.”

On Christmas Eve of 1987, Kevin popped the big question and asked Kyra to marry him. "Shockingly, she said yes," Kevin said. Kyra also felt lucky to marry Kevin. "It really is amazing that he saw in me something that I just didn't have the confidence to wrap my arms around," she explained.

They felt that there were no secrets more than three decades into their marriage. Kya believed that she had learned everything there was to know about her husband.

"[Our relationship] is like a treasure; there are layers and layers of it. I'm constantly amazed that we are still surprised and interested in each other," she said.

Kevin and Kyra were featured on the television show "Finding Your Roots," a "PBS" series where famous Americans get some insight into their family backgrounds. The host, Henry Louis Gates Jr, showed Kyra a picture of her husband and explained that he was her ninth cousin once removed.

They both fell in love with it the minute they saw it. Neither one of them wanted a massive place, though, because they spend a lot of time in New York.

Kevin was shocked at discovering that he was related to his wife. The show also revealed that he was a distant cousin to Brad Pitt and even Barack Obama. He felt that it was good that he shared common ancestry with his wife and other celebrities.

"That we all, essentially, kind of climbed out of the same swamp. It's fun to be at the forefront of that idea," he said. But Kyra felt that she always knew that she was related to Kevin somehow.

She expressed a lack of surprise at the revelation: "I figured I would be related to Kevin Bacon — I mean, most white people are ultimately related. I wasn't surprised, honestly. Frankly, I figured that was part of the reason that they wanted to do both of us. I had to act surprised."

INSIDE THE COUPLE'S LOS ANGELES HOME

Kevin and Kyra bought a house in the Los Feliz area of Los Angeles. The house had two bedrooms and three bathrooms and had 2,760 square feet. They bought it for $2.5 million.

One source said, "they both fell in love with it the minute they saw it. Neither one wanted a massive place, though, because they spend a lot of time in New York."

Kyra and Kevin's home combined steel and wood beautifully. The lower level of the house had a guest room, an office, and a gym. The home also had a chef's kitchen, high ceilings, and a primary suite - complete with his and hers closets and bathrooms.

The home also features a lot of glass with an open kitchen and dining area ideal for entertaining. Hundreds of records lined the floor-to-ceiling shelves, and the house also had a beautiful view from the balcony.

At the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Kevin appreciated his home as an oasis but also missed acting. "I'm hoping people will be hungry for some content. I love acting, and I love making the show. What remains to be seen is how we react once we get through this. I can't even really guess," he said.

He also spoke about some of the organizations he felt were most important to him during the pandemic: "We live in a country where our sisters and brothers and children are going hungry. Being New Yorkers — we are lucky to be bicoastal at this point — we love the "Food Bank of New York."

Kevin continued, "On a national scale, "No Kid Hungry" is a great organization." Kevin and Kyra share two children. Travis was born in 1989, a year into their marriage.

He briefly worked in the entertainment industry, but most of his work has been off-camera. The couple's youngest child, Sosie, was born in 1992 and followed in her father's footsteps, featuring in series such as "13 Reasons Why" and "Mare of Easttown."
