Melody Thomas Scott is a mother to three children whom she loves and treats with care. However, her upbringing was completely different, with neglect from her mom and abuse from her grandmom.

According to Melody Thomas Scott's biography, "Always Young and Restless: My Life On and Off America's #1 Daytime Drama," the star was born to a teenage mother. Her parent was only 16 when she had her and transferred schools to avoid being embarrassed by her situation.

The actress's grandmother forced her mother to marry the person who'd impregnated her. Melody lived with her father in Los Angeles, and every day, the pair would go see the star's mother at school during her lunch hour.

The actress recalled how despondent her mother was as she waited for them. Melody's father would park on the outskirts of the schoolyard, where the star's mother would jump in to feed her quickly.

Her grandmother would be in the car with them to supervise the feeding time. Even though she was less than one year old at the time, Melody recalled how disconnected her mother was from her and handled her like she was a chore, adding:

"She did not want me. she did not love me."

The actress' grandmother took on raising her, but she wasn't any better than Melody's mother. Sadly, the star's grandmother was equally disconnected from her, and she never got all the loving and warm things that a parental figure was supposed to give, with the actress noting:

"I don't think that there was ever any love involved."

One thing Melody grew up being exposed to was her grandmother's fits of rage. The actress wasn't the only person who was afraid of her guardian, but she, unfortunately, was the youngest in the home.

Another person who was in the home but never around was Melody's grandfather. He could be found in the home's attic in the corner of the room where there wasn't much space to fit into.

Most people called her grandfather "Pop," but she didn't call him anything because they rarely spoke. To her, he was just "that guy" from upstairs who occasionally made an appearance.

In the household, people weren't allowed to shower, and baths were only taken if there were auditions or special interviews. When it came to her show business activities, Melody had to keep them organized herself or risk dealing with her grandmother.

The guardian bought her costumes and clothes but mainly supervised her during classes and sets when she wasn't driving them around. Melody's grandmother was abusive in the way she addressed her.

She'd judge her singing, calling it "terrible," her dancing and voice, called her unprofessional, and even said the little girl looked like an "idiot" on stage. The star's grandmother shouted at her for smiling too much, describing her teeth as crooked.

Melody also had to yo-yo around with her grandmother's emotions. One day she'd receive lots of toys and expensive clothes to show her love, then suffer her guardian's criticisms, rage, and harsh words.

The parental figure would blame her grandchild for her own unhappiness and ruin Melody's moments of joy. The actress thought all of this was done to keep her anxious, angry, off-balance, and nervous.

Melody never knew what her grandmother would say or do next or why she'd take any of those actions. Ultimately, she started resenting the guardian's overbearing presence as she never knew which version she'd have to deal with at any given time.

Now married with children of her own, Melody's Beverly Hills home was a far cry from where she grew up. Back in the 1970s, she had to contest with ants, cockroaches, dirty clothes everywhere, and piles of trash!

The actress was ashamed of how they lived because she knew other children weren't living the same way. Living that way caused her pain, and she longed to be normal but knew they weren't anything close to that.

Melody and Edward Scott, a producer, initially would meet up with the cast and crew of a show they were involved in. Towards the end of 1983, she and Edward started meeting up alone and once went out for dinner.

Even though the dinner date wasn't necessarily romantic, the actress found herself falling for Edward because of how easy he made it. The producer surprised her with how charming, kind, and compassionate he was.

The pair found themselves falling in love as she realized Edward was funny, something he didn't reveal at work. He was generous and genuine, unlike other typical Hollywood producers.

By September 1988, Melody and Edward had been married for three years. Her husband was the executive producer of the show she was starring in, "The Young and the Restless (Y&R)."

On October 12, 2021, the happy couple celebrated their 36th wedding anniversary. Melody was married twice before meeting her husband, but those marriages only lasted six months each, and she once said:

“In my heart, this is my only marriage.”

In 2019, Melody shared how her family was doing. She revealed her stepdaughter, Jennifer Scott Christensen, was a mother to twins and directed "The Bold and the Beautiful," while her other child, Elizabeth Scott, had two children of her own.

Her daughter, Alexandra Yeaggy, was a fashion designer who'd created a bridal line that was successful. That year, Melody and her husband had five grandchildren who she described as "wonderful" and "fulfilling."

In July 2020, Yeaggy's mother shared how close she was to her daughter by sharing two Instagram images of the duo posing together. She revealed that she'd crashed her daughter's video shoot for her bridal line, Yeaggy Bridal.

According to the company's biography, it was founded in 2010 and paid homage to her late father, makeup artist Carlos Yeaggy. Melody's daughter's work was also featured in a July 2021 "The Bold and the Beautiful" episode.

The Instagram account for the business shows all the work Yeaggy has done over the years. Besides being a mother, Elizabeth had also followed in her mother's footsteps by becoming an actress.

In 2013, she starred as Sarah on Y&R, who was Richard and Gina's long-lost daughter. That same year, Melody's daughter was also set to star in the series "Venice," where she was sure to win more fans.

On the other hand, Jennifer seemed to prefer being behind the scenes. From 1998 until 2013, she worked as the second unit director or assistant director for Y&R, and from 2010 to 2022, she had the same post on "The Bold and the Beautiful."

Melody has been a doting grandmother to her grandchildren. In June 2019, she shared a throwback Instagram image from nearly four years ago where she was holding little Ellie for the first time.

That same month and year, she uploaded a photo of her then-eight-year-old granddaughter, Charlotte Scott Christensen, enjoying a pasta dish. Charlotte was one of Jennifer's twins with brother James Rawlings Christensen, and Fiero was another grandchild.

Melody once joked that she was close to getting busted by the children's parents for feeding them cookies! She hilariously noted that feeding them junk was just part of the deal when it came to her babysitting for free!
