A man sparked a debate on Twitter after he revealed his girlfriend's negative reaction upon seeing his pillow. According to him, the pillow is an essential bedroom piece that helps him fall into a deep slumber despite its appearance.

Pillows are often covered in cases that help preserve it's cleanliness while making it presentable. However, as time passes, people don't notice how the cushion itself has changed in shape, quality, and color.

A man recently shared a picture of what his pillow looked like, and as he revealed, his girlfriend was not impressed. In fact, she was angry at him after seeing the pillow.

The man called his now infamous pillow "The Yellow Pillow." Just as he named it, the cushion was a light yellow shade with hints of white. It looked like it had been a long time since it had been washed. He said:

"It's not my fault the pillow is yellow and bestows upon me the most peaceful slumber."

Many Twitter users shared their two cents on the man's situation, with many agreeing that a yellow pillow is a comfortable one. One person said:

"I got rid of my yellow pillows maybe a year ago and I legit haven't rested comfortably since."

Another Twitter user said that men usually have the same pillow they had at ten years old. Often, this pillow has never been washed. One person shared a photo of his pillow, which was much more yellow than the man's.

Meanwhile, others hinted that the man should machine wash his pillows. "Nothing like a fresh pillow to get a good nights sleep, yeah they take a couple of sleeps to get them right, but from then on it's smooth sleeping. Nothing more feral then a yellow pillow, they smell rank [sic]," another one said.

Unfortunately, it wasn't only the color that faded on the man's pillow but also the shape and plumpness. Likely, the accumulation of sweat and dust has turned the pillow into what it is now.

Other things that can cause moisture and pillow discoloration are natural body oils, beauty and skin care products, and drool.

Interestingly, pillows naturally fade into a yellow color as time passes, even with proper care and frequent washing. This is because of moisture and sweat absorption. Sweat stains, which humans excrete while sleeping to regulate body temperature, are why pillows change color.

Excessive sweating can even make this process faster, so it is best to sleep in a cool environment with breathable bedsheets.

Another reason for yellowing pillows is sleeping with wet hair. Similarly, the damp hair collects moisture and turns the pillow yellow. Other things that can cause moisture and pillow discoloration are natural body oils, beauty and skin care products, and drool.

Fortunately, small and light stains on a quality pillow won't affect sleep. As long as the pillow still supports the head and neck well, is plump, and feels comfortable, it should be fine to sleep on.

Pillows that aren't too yellow can still be salvaged, depending on the material. The best way to clean a pillow is to read its washing instructions, as some have a cover that can be washed.

Another way to remove stains is to treat it by area. Using a wet cloth, rub mild detergent on the stained spot. Baking soda can also be used as a cleaning agent. Regardless of the product, the pillow should sit in it for a few hours before being thoroughly rinsed with water.

There are also several products on the market that claim to remove a variety of stains, making cleaning much more manageable.
