See How Magic Johnson's Wife Cookie Celebrated His 61st Birthday on Social Media

Magic's Johnson wife celebrates his 61st birthday with a throwback photo from his previous birthday and a heartfelt message about their 40-year marriage.

A year ago, Magic Johnson and his wife, Cookie Johnson celebrated their joint 60th birthday with a lavish weekend-long celebration in St. Tropez, France.

The star-studded event came complete with a red carpet and A-list stars which included, Spike Lee, Angela Bassett, and Nicole Ari Parker.

This year, the couple celebrated Magic's birthday a little differently and kept this low key. While Cookie didn't reveal the plans she had for husband, she did post a heartfelt message.

Cookie shared a throwback photo from the couple's infamous 60th birthday bash. In the first image, they were pictured in a club-like setting.

The second photo showed them standing on the top deck of a luxury yacht. Magic was dressed in a chequered suit while his wife opted for a designer safety pin styled dress. In a heartfelt message, Cookie penned sweet well wishes for her husband. She wrote:

"I wish you a super year ahead. You have been my great love for over 40 plus yrs and I cherish every moment with you, I salute you."

Many fans helped Cookie to wish the NBA legend a happy birthday. One person wrote, "happy Blessed Birthday Magic. Cookie that dress is [fire]."

Another person added, "Happy Birthday to your hubby. He is a great role model!" Magic also commented on the post and expressed his love for his wife with three heart emojis.

Leading the birthday tributes was the couple's friend and LL Cool J's wife, Simone Smith. She shared a throwback photo with the couple from her own birthday in 2013.

Simone admitted that even though the birthday message was posted a day earlier than Magic's actual birthday, she thought it was the perfect photo to share on "Throwback Thursdays."

Cookie and Magic have endured a lot in their forty-year marriage. In 1991, only 45 days before their wedding, Magic revealed to his wife that he was HIV positive.

She admitted in an interview with "Good Morning America" that Magic gave her the option to leave him. However, she assured him that she wouldn't leave and the couple has been married for 40 blissful years while raising their three children.
