'It breaks my heart...' Keyshia Cole opens up about mother Frankie's struggle with drug addiction
The American singer, songwriter, record producer, and television personality recently spoke up about the long battle her mother has been fighting over the years.
Keyshia Cole's mother Frankie Lons has beens struggling with a drug addiction for a long time now, and although she has periods of sobriety, she also frequently relapses back to her old habits.
Cole recently took to Instagram to share her heartache that her mother has once again fallen off the wagon on her journey to sobriety.
Cole was born to Lons, but given up for adoption at the age of two to family friends Leon and Yvonne Cole, who changed her last name when they took her in.
Although Cole is still close to her adoptive parents, she has also reconnected with her birth mother, despite originally saying she would steer clear of her due to her substance abuse.
In 2014, she seemed to soften towards Lons, and started sharing her mother's troubles with her fans in an effort to drum up support and prayers for Lons.
A short while later, Lons went and had her daughter's name tattooed on her arm.
But in 2016, the star nearly went broke trying to help her mother fight her addiction, and her sobriety wasn't to last even then.
In mid-2017, the mother-daughter duo had a slight falling out when Lons relapsed again, with the singer taking to social media to vent her frustrations over the situation.
"I told my mother the other day I was afraid to lose her because she keeps going back to the streets," Cole tweeted. "You know what she said? In return? She said, 'YOU'LL be aight.'"
Now it seems as if Lons might have relapsed yet again, if a video Cole posted to her Instagram account is anything to go by.
"This was 2 1/2 years ago. Every time my mom relapse, it breaks my heart more than it’s already been broken. I’m hoping, if any of u are dealing with a family member who’s battling with drug addiction, that you, yourself are learning how to cope with the struggle of it all. And all the pain it brings to see a loved one constantly relapsing. See them go back to the streets Because that’s what they’re used to, or would rather be. I really miss you! And will always love u #FrankTheBank," she wrote.
In the clip, her mother can be seen asking for prayers as she battles her substance abuse issues, with Cole telling her that her children love her no matter what.
