Pop star Demi Lovato turned 26 on the 20th of August, but due to her relapse into substance abuse and her subsequent overdose, she celebrated the date in rehab.

Her little sister Madison De La Garza, 16, posted a touching message on social media, sharing her gratitude for her sister's well-being and her having survived the overdose.

Madison shared a throwback photo of herself and Lovato on her Instagram page. In the photo a very young Demi is wearing a red tank top, a red hat, and a pair of round glasses as she puts her arm around a smiling baby Madison.

Even more touching was her caption, in which she thanked God, the doctors and everyone whose help and support had put Lovato on the way to recovery.

Madison shared some of the things that make Lovato so endearing as a big sister like “how her nostrils move when she says certain words” and how she “brushes my hair behind my ear when I’m trying to sleep.”

She explains that the small things about Lovato are what make her wonderful, not what the media sees her as - a singer and a celebrity.

Madison speaks of her sister as a daughter, a friend, and "my big sister."

Madison’s post has garnered over 59,000 likes and over 3,100 comments. Fans added their birthday wishes to Madison, and hope the singer will soon be fully recovered.

Lovato suffered a near-fatal drug overdose on the 24th of 2018. The Inquisitr reported that Lovato “bought oxycodone from the dealer and smoked it from a piece of tin foil.”

Later investigation revealed that the drug was laced with fentanyl, which caused the singer's breathing to slow, and she became unconscious.

Lovato was administered Narcan to reverse the effects of the drugs by first responders and rushed to the hospital. Lovato is currently in a long-term rehab center in Arizona.
