Solange's son is now almost as tall as his dad in recent photo

A recent photo of Solange Knowles' teenage son and his father is a gentle reminder of how the singer beat the odds raising him when she was only a teenager herself, and how she successfully forged a co-parenting relationship with her ex-husband all these years.

Solange Knowles is 32 and she has a son who’s all grown up and is as tall as his father. Just this week, Daniel Smith Jr. posted a photo of Julez, his son with the songstress and revealed how time has flown since Knowles welcomed him fourteen years ago.

Knowles was only 18 when she delivered Julez into this world. She had just lost her childhood friend to gun violence a year earlier and was still reeling from her death when she brought another life into the world.

In 2017, Knowles penned an emotional letter for Teen Vogue reflecting on being a teenage mother and how she came into terms with it.

“You will be terrified, and it’s ok that you don’t know what the future holds,” she said, but realized later that love was what would keep her going.

“Some people will count you out because of the decision you’ve made to bring another life into the world so young, but you made the decision out of love and will live with the decision in love.”

Knowles married Smith, her high school sweetheart, shortly after giving birth to their son. The marriage didn’t last long. By the age of 21, she was already a divorcee.

But love proved to be on Knowles’ side, as she reared her son while forging a career in music. She co-parented with Smith who remains her friend to this day. The two have managed to amicably share the responsibility of raising Julez and have never said a bad word against each other. This is also the reason that Julez has fond memories of both his parents as their Instagram accounts reveal.

Yesterday, he was on a concert date with his father who shared a snap of them walking into the outdoor event. Julez, with his curly blonde hair, was noticeably almost as tall as his dad. He wore a white hoodie and a pair of black shorts and toted a backpack behind him. His father matched his casual look wearing a black Jordan T-shirt, red sweatpants and a red cap. The father and son walked closely together as they headed towards the stage surrounded by a crowd of people. “Yo Julez what’s they problem #thatlook,” Smith wrote to caption the photo.

Though Julez is Knowles’ only son, he has a half-brother, Legend, courtesy of his father. In July, Smith shared a throwback photo of his two sons playing in a pool of balls and it was clear they shared a connection. Julez doted on the little boy who didn’t seem to mind being stuck with his much older brother. The photo was proof of the kind of love that goes around Julez and his family, thanks to his parents who kept the love alive despite their rocky start.
