Antonio Banderas surpassed Nicole Kidman in 'most awkward applause during Emmy Awards'
This year’s 70th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards went by without a hitch. Despite that, viewers found a strange occurrence at the event that has everyone in stitches.
In the audience on Monday, Antonio Banderas was seen doing something quite strange. While everyone around him clapped enthusiastically for the winners, the actor appeared to have an odd clap.
Antonio Banderas, 58, attended the Emmy Awards on Monday with a long list of other celebrities. He was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie award for "Genius: Picasso."
His nomination wasn’t what turned heads, however. Banderas was noticed for his odd applause.

She wrote on Twitter, “Whaaat is this clap from Antonio Banderas? #Emmys.”
Alongside her comment was a gif image of Banderas applauding with his fingers bent at weird angles.
This wasn’t the first actor to be caught clapping in a weird way. Last year at the Oscars, Nicole Kidman, 51, made headlines for the way she too chose to applause.
On March 8, of the same year, Kidman spoke out about the viral moment. During an Australian radio interview with Kyle and Jackie O Opens a New Window she explained that the jewelry she was wearing on the day had made it hard for her to clap.
“It was really awkward,” Kidman gushed. “I was like, ‘I wanna clap, I don’t wanna not be clapping’ — that’d be worse, right? Like, ‘Why isn’t Nicole clapping?’ So therefore I’m clapping but it was really difficult because I had a huge ring on that was not mine — but it was absolutely gorgeous — and I was terrified of damaging it,” the actress explained.
The star revealed that she had rings on her fingers which made it difficult for her palms to touch together. The rings she wore were really expensive Harry Winston pieces.
For his part, Banderas didn’t seem to be wearing any sort of jewelry that would get in the way of his applause. Maybe he’ll also address the incident soon enough.
