Woman sends warning to others after she found a hook inside a tampon
Harmony Grant is sharing her story to remind other women to be careful after she discovered a sharp plastic hook inside a tampon.
The trouble began when the 22-year-old woman, from Virginia Beach, unwrapped a Playtex Gentle Glide tampon and noticed a black dot on it. She says she pulled out the object, which revealed a hook, as reported by 13News Now.
Regardless of the company’s priority of safety, Grant said she'd been left “traumatized” by the circumstance.
“I was utterly shocked that there was a hook sticking out of a tampon,” Grant told the news outlet.
Now, the young woman took to social media to inform other women about the risks of these items. She posted about her terrible discovery, which quickly went viral.
Since then, Grant also alerted Edgewell Personal Care, which makes the product, about what she had found. The company got back to her through email.
Although Grant got an expression of remorse and an offer for a refund, she believes the way they responded is not acceptable.
“It was like, completely unacceptable," she said. "I kind of felt like they brushed it off like it was no big deal. I could have seriously been injured."
In a statement to 13News Now, Edgewell Personal Care said that they are waiting for "the necessary information" before they're "able to fully evaluate all the details of the report."
The company also convinced everybody that this is an isolated occurrence and it "does not affect other Playtex tampon products, which remain safe to use."
Regardless of the company’s priority of safety, Grant said she'd been left “traumatized” by the circumstance.
“Honestly, I’m just traumatized about the whole situation. That could've been potentially very harmful to me, and I just want other women to know things like this are happening,” she told 13News Now.
Grant's horrifying experience comes after Kotex issued a recall recently following reports of tampons unraveling or coming apart upon removal.
