Loyal Dog Refuses to Leave His Dead Owner after He Was Hit by a Train

The harrowing images of a faithful puppy sitting next to its owner's body, who died after being hit by a train, have quickly become viral on social media.

The victim was identified as 57-year-old Víctor Reyna Vazquez, and it’s believed he was consuming alcoholic beverages near the railroad tracks the night of April 3, when he left his home.

Sadly, the preliminary investigation indicates that he fell asleep in the middle of the tracks, and a train ran over him in the early hours of April 4.

Police cordoned off the area, and a blanket was placed over the man’s body.

Red Cross personnel who attended the scene were surprised to find the victim's dog sitting next to the body.

Local media reported that the animal had to be forcibly removed from the scene so that the man's body could be lifted off the railway.

The police report also indicates that the animal tried to bite one of the officers and paramedics who tried to separate him from his dead owner.

The incident took place on the Montemorelos train track, in the Mexican state of Nuevo León.

Neighbors in the area claimed that Reyna Vazquez was an alcoholic and that the dog had accompanied him for years.

After lifting the body from the scene, police officers took the dog to the civil protection facilities in the city. Social media users have asked authorities to place the loyal dog in a shelter so he can be put up for adoption.

Marychuy Zamarron wrote, "We have a lot to learn from animals, and now I wonder who is more animalistic them or us."

Analicia Salazar added, “This is true unconditional love. And to think some people treat their dogs so badly…”

And Grizz Gamez agreed,

“The deceased must have given his dog all the love in the world while he was alive... good people still exist ... not like some who leave their pets to their fate by abandoning them. They depend on us to have food and a roof.”

Dogs are some, if not the most loyal animals a man can have.

Last year, a poor greyhound went an entire month without food while staying by her owner’s side.

She lived alone with the man, who passed away at his home in Houston, Texas. The dog’s situation was only discovered when they found her owner’s body.

Nine-year-old Dory never left the man’s lifeless body in the month it took the family to find out about what was going on and to take her to a shelter to recover from her terrible ordeal, as The Dodo reported.

Dory was rescued and taken to the Harris County Animal Shelter, to help her recover from the nightmare she had to undergo and help her find a new home.

The volunteers at the shelter were surprised when they found that Dory’s condition wasn’t that critical. After her terrible month, she was only stressed, irritated and thin.

A few days later, Dory was moved to Greyhound Pets of America (GPA), where she was kept with the hope that some kind-hearted family would adopt her for good.
