Woman, 102, Being Evicted from 30-Year Home so Landlord's Daughter Can Move In
A 102-year-old woman is being forced to move out of her home of 30-years so that the landlord's daughter can move in.
Family and friends of Thelma Smith, 102, are joining forces to make sure the grandmother is not evicted from her home after being given an eviction notice.
Smith is now being forced to relocate after her landlord intends to move his daughter into the home once she graduates from law school.
The lady has lost most of her family through the years, including her husband, and most of her living relatives are on the opposite coast from Ladera Heights.
She is now limited to moving in with someone or moving into assisted living, which is difficult for her to do due to limited funds.
According to her family friend, Antonio Avelino,
"Right now it's the unknown that's bothering her as far relocating her to her new places. She couldn't afford it she would need some assistance from county and other friends to support her in these places."
During an interview, CBSLA's Amy Johnson spoke to the landlord, asking why he would kick out a 102-year-old woman.
"We know legally you can make her leave but 102? Would you kick out a 102-year-old woman?"
The landlord then replied, saying: "Would you take care of your child?"
Meanwhile, Smith herself said that she's lived a good life. "The only thing I can say is that I've tried to live a good life, I've never wanted to harm anybody."
She must now vacate the house by June 30, but her friends and family are looking for good places for her to move into as soon as possible.
