Joe Biden, 76, and his family got together this week to show a united front as the former vice president took part in the second round of Democratic debates. The debates are a lead up to the 2020 elections.

Taking to Instagram, the politician shared an image featuring himself and his son Hunter Biden, 49. The former vice president’s son also came along with his new wife, Melissa Cohen.

The politician captioned the post revealing that he was about to take the stage and was “Grateful to have my family by my side.” The picture also included other family members.

The event was one of the first times that the attorney and his wife have been seen in public. In May, the couple had a private wedding in Los Angeles.

Hunter’s wife is a South African filmmaker. Earlier in the year, the politician’s son gave a lengthy series of interviews where he opened up about his father supporting him and the support he, in turn, gave back.

He confessed that he was like a “security blanket” for Joe. The lawyer revealed that unlike his father’s staff; he was there solely for the politician’s needs.

The former vice president’s son shared: “I tell [my father] to close his eyes on the bus. I can say things to him that nobody else can.” Hunter also opened up about his wedding to Cohen.

Hunter told The New Yorker he called his father the day of his wedding to Cohen. He recalled how his father was on speaker with them and he said to his daughter-in-law and said: “'Thank you for giving my son the courage to love again.’”

The attorney’s marriage only became public knowledge in June. People were surprised because Hunter had previously been in a romantic relationship with Hallie Biden, the widow of his older brother, Beau Biden.

Beau passed away in 2015 from brain cancer. The lawyer explained that his relationship with Hallie only lasted for a few months; revealing their split early this year.

In the interview, Hunter also opened up about his drug and alcohol problems. He also spoke at length about his and his father’s relationship.
