Beyoncé's Father Mathew Knowles Says There's an Unreleased Destiny’s Child Album
Beyonce's father, Mathew Knowles just announced that he's poised to release a never-before-published album of Destiny's Child with 16 songs featuring a then-11-year-old Beyonce.
Fans of “Destiny’s Child” will be thrilled to learn that their favorite 90s trio had an unreleased album that may soon see the light of day.
According to Mathew Knowles, Beyonce’s father and the group’s former manager, the album exists and may be released in time for the staging of “Survivor: The Destiny’s Child Musical.”
IT GOES FAR BACK TO WHEN BEYONCE WAS 11
Knowles let the cat out of the bag during a recent interview with In Touch magazine. He also revealed that he owns the rights to the unreleased album which has 16 songs.
“These are great songs, 16 of them. You’ll see the synergy between the album, book and musical,” the 67-year-old explained.
In a separate interview with Metro UK, Knowles revealed that before Destiny’s Child, the group was called Girls Tyme. He said that it was during that time, specifically in 1992 when the ladies recorded these 16 songs.
“Beyonce was about 11,” he recalled. “Most people are smart enough to realize from 11 to 30, your voice will change, so there’ll be a different sound in Beyonce’s voice.”
He added,
“Beyonce was singing lead, Kelly was singing second lead, so it’s the same group, just with a member change with Michelle. Really great songs they sang, one of them they did on Star Search. There’s 16 songs on the album.”
ON WHY 2020 IS THE YEAR OF DESTINY'S CHILD
Knowles announced that 2020 will be “the year of Destiny’s Child” with the premiere of his musical, the album’s release and possible documentaries.
“Next year will be a great year. We’ll reveal some of the original Destiny’s Child wardrobe. There’s a lot going on. So it would be great to consummate all of that with a Destiny’s Child tour, or integrate a tour into all of that activity. It would be amazing. But first, we have to get the artists to sign off on that"
It was back in 2006 when the trio officially broke up, two years after dropping their last album, “Destiny Fulfilled.” In 2013, they reunited at the Super Bowl and last year at Coachella but that’s as far as a reunion they will ever go.
Knowles, who remains the group’s manager but is no longer in charge of their solo careers has not gotten a go signal or any form of support from either Beyonce, Kelly Rowland or Michelle Williams regarding the musical or his other plans for that matter.
The musical centers on his perspective of Destiny’s Child’s rise to fame. Based on the 1996 film, “Set it Off” it’s written by Je’Caryous Johnson.
"They’re best friends, and that’s what it has always been for the Destiny’s Child members – having fun and sharing their music with their fans, and that’s what makes them so special.”
ON THE POSSIBILITY OF A REUNION TOUR
It was back in 2006 when the trio officially broke up, two years after dropping their last album, “Destiny Fulfilled.” In 2013, they reunited at the Super Bowl and last year at Coachella but that’s as far as a reunion they will ever go.
According to Knowles, it will be a long shot for the females to come together again for a tour considering the amount of time to arrange one though he encourages it. “I can’t speak for them, I can only say that I would recommend they consider it while the opportunity is there,” he told Metro UK in August.
But despite his pessimism over the possibility of a tour happening, Knowles is hanging on to one important thought that may pave the way for that dream to be a reality.
“The beauty of Destiny’s Child is that they never broke up, they retired," he says. So a tour for them would not be a reunion tour, it would be a “coming out of retirement” tour. They’re best friends, and that’s what it has always been for the Destiny’s Child members – having fun and sharing their music with their fans, and that’s what makes them so special.”
Here’s hoping the post-dated release of their 1992 album would trigger a string of events that may one day lead to their “coming out of retirement tour.”
