Alexis Ohanian reflected on the gains of the Supreme Court's decision of 53 years ago that made it possible for interracial couples like him and Serena Williams to be legally married in the United States.

In a sweet post to mark the 53rd anniversary of "Loving v Virginia Day," the proud husband shared an adorable black-and-white picture from his and Serena's wedding.

The picture showed the tennis star walking down the aisle, with her husband watching happily and the congregation cheering.

In the caption to the post, Ohanian said that without the landmark Civil Rights ruling of the US Supreme Court in 1967 that struck down laws banning interracial marriages, he and Serena's wedding would have been illegal in Louisiana. He also wrote:

"Even the framing of "Anti-miscegenation" is so messed—up—it normalizes hate—and to think people at our wedding actually were alive when that ceremony would've been banned."

Ohanian, who is the co-founder of "Reddit," added that this occurrence wasn't ancient history and that many States in the US had some of these laws repealed after losing the civil war, but reinstated them as soon as they could.

In conclusion to his post, the entrepreneur thanked Mildred and Richard Loving (who were sentenced to jail in 1958 for marrying each other) for tearing down racist relics so that generations of Americans could legally enjoy the foundation act of Family.

One of the keys to a successful marriage is showing up and being supportive of one's spouse.

Before their first meeting, Serena Williams had never heard of Reddit, while Alexis Ohanian never watched any of her tennis games and didn't know much about the sport. However, they met at a hotel in Rome, where they were both staying in for different reasons.

They soon went on their first date and were engaged eighteen months after with Ohanian proposing to her in the same hotel and at the same table where they first met. Recalling that moment, Williams said:

"Alexis flew me out to Rome, back to the exact table where we'd met. We were both really nervous but also excited to take this huge step. It was such a beautiful moment."

Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian married in November 2016 and share an adorable daughter, Alexis Olympia Jr., who was born in September 2017. Now two years old, Olympia has grown to be a cute toddler and the pride of her parents.

The couple usually dotes on their daughter and showed a glimpse of that during the wedding ceremony of Ohanian's sister, where Olympia was the flower girl, and her mother, a bridesmaid.

So far, theirs has been a very successful marriage, and the entrepreneur, during a chat with "Glamour," talked about the secret to their loving union.

He said that one of the keys to a successful marriage was showing up and being supportive of one's spouse, adding that it was often the little things that mattered the most.
