Outraged Worker Tears Down New Apartments Because Developer Allegedly Owes Him $5.8 Million
An outraged worker in Blumberg, Germany, took matters into his own hands following a developer's failure to pay up the $5.8 million owed him for the construction of the project.
The disgruntled contractor reportedly tore down the finished building using an excavator, causing extensive damages. In addition, the surrounding garages of the uninhabited construction site also suffered damages, which may have destroyed the gas containers within.

Eye-witness accounts suggested that the 47-year-old hopped into a chain-driven excavator in anger and began working his way around the new building complex.
He destroyed large sections of the 30 residential units, tearing down the balcony units. The building façade also suffered significant damages.
The commotion attracted about fifty onlookers, who witnessed as the man suspended his destruction spree before entering his car and driving off. Some claimed he put a hold on the demolition because the hydraulic hose broke.

A viral video of the incident showed the enraged worker strategically smashing the glass windows and balconies in select portions of the new building, using the excavator's shovel.
The worker barely caused any damage, as he simply returned the building to the state it was when the developer ceased payment.
Officers arrived at the scene shortly after and accessed the damages. As a precautionary measure in case of possible gas leaks, they temporarily cordoned off a large area of the construction site, pending thorough assessment of the complex by professionals.

The fire department also responded at the scene as witnesses confirmed the smell of gas in the area, which signified a broken gas pipe. However, no fire outbreak was recorded.
The building contractor turned himself in to the police shortly after. He admitted to destroying the complex because his outstanding payments were wrongly withheld from him.
Reports show that the suspect, who is a subcontractor of the developer, had at least five million in outstanding debts owed him by the developer.

Using the excavator hired specifically for the demolition purpose, the contractor caused damages worth about $600,000, a fraction of the amount the developer allegedly owed him.
While authorities have frowned upon the worker's hasty reaction to his unpaid money, netizens seemed to have crowned him some kind of long-suffering hero.
Many utilized various platforms to commend the building contractor for his "perfect" response, deeming it a lesson to corporations seeking means to cut every corner.

One Twitter user pointed out that the worker barely caused any damage, as he simply returned the building to the state it was when the developer ceased payment. Another likened the act to throwing out a cup of coffee because a customer refused to pay for it.
Netizens hope the incident would encourage developers to think twice before trying to cheat contractors out of their due payments in the future.
