Man Lost 46lbs, Blames It on His Wife and Sues Her

A man is demanding a divorce from his wife, accusing her of mental cruelty, which caused him to lose 46 lbs since their marriage. His wife has since refuted the allegations, filing a counterclaim in court.

A couple in Haryana, India, is making headlines after news of their impending divorce due to unusual causes hit the media. The two have since been in and out of courthouses as they are caught up in a heated legal feud.

The husband, who has 50% hearing loss and uses a hearing aid, claimed his wife's mental cruelty had led him to lose 46 lbs. Opting for the divorce was his last resort to regain his sanity.

According to court documents, the man weighed 163lbs before his marriage in April 2012. However, after living with his wife for nearly a decade, his weight dropped drastically to a faltering 117lbs.

The man blamed the weight loss on his wife's mentally draining vices, including being bad-tempered and a spendthrift. He also alleged that his wife had never tried to adjust to his family throughout their marriage.

Her inability to maintain a good relationship with his family was only worsened by her tendency to pick fights with them over petty issues, humiliating her husband in the process.

The plaintiff endured her excesses silently for years, hoping her good sense would someday prevail. It only worsened with time, forcing the man with a physical disability to file for divorce in August 2019.

The Hisar family court granted the man's demand for divorce. However, his wife filed an appeal against the family court order, asking the court to quash the divorce order.

In her appeal, she denied the allegations saying she always performed her marital obligations with love and respect. She also alleged that her husband failed to treat her with love and respect, while his family constantly harassed and humiliated her for dowry.

During the hearing, the Hisar Court discovered that the defendant walked out on her marriage in 2016, abandoning her husband and daughter. She never made efforts to meet them afterward.

Additionally, contrary to her claims of dowry harassment, the findings showed that the woman's in-laws never demanded any dowry. Instead, they sponsored her higher studies up until her graduation.

Taking those discoveries into consideration, the woman's complaints against her husband and his family reeked of falsehood.

The HC dismissed the woman's appeal on the basis that all criminal complaints she filed against her husband and in-laws were false. The discovery backed her husband's claims of mental cruelty on her part.

The Punjab and Haryana high court has since backed the claims, upholding the HC's decision to grant the physically challenged man a dissolution of his matrimonial alliance.
