Man Accidentally Found Out His Wife Was Cheating on Him for Years and Develops a Revenge Plan
Imagine waking up and finding out your wife of seventeen years is cheating on you with another guy. A Redditor found himself in a similar situation when he opened a Snapchat notification on his wife's phone and read an intimate text from her boyfriend.
It takes ages to build trust and a few seconds to break it. The feeling of betrayal is painful. It will take time to overcome the sad feeling, and it often leaves scars.
For many, after they recover from the betrayal, the next step is to seek revenge. The idea is to inflict the same pain they are feeling on the person who caused it. This Redditor developed a savage revenge plan to confront his cheating wife.

A man posted his revenge story on Reddit to ask other users what they thought about it. The 43-year-old man married a 49-year-old woman 17 years ago. The woman was divorced and already had two daughters, whom he happily accepted and helped raise.
The couple had a strong marriage, and the family had excellent communication as they were open about their feelings. This prevented unnecessary misunderstandings, but the OP (Original Poster) mentioned that they recently started spending less time together due to work commitments.
He worked as a medical practitioner and often came home late, while his wife worked from home and spent the entire day in the house. They only interacted on weekends, so they made sure to stay close to each other during this time.

One fine day, the OP decided to change the fan's filter in their bedroom. After changing the filter, he needed to update an app, so the man asked his wife to give him her phone. As soon as he tapped the screen, the phone asked him for a passcode.
Even though he wanted to ask about the phone, he decided to ignore it. While he was swiping on the screen, searching for the fan's app, a Snapchat message notification popped up. The Redditor revealed he felt a lump in his throat as he read the message from an unknown person saying, "I'll bring the special toy."
His wife asked if he was OK, and he replied that he was looking at the IP and router information on her phone. He pretended he didn't read anything, but deep down, he was shocked. He couldn't believe that his wife of 17 years would cheat on him.

The OP decided to keep an eye on his wife and find out more about the unknown person. He took a few days off from work to focus on the issue. While investigating his wife's extramarital affair, he discovered they had exchanged more than 15,000 text messages and photos.
Reading the messages, he realized his wife had been in touch with the guy for more than a year, and they initially spoke via text messages before switching to Snapchat. The OP also uncovered who the man was and realized he had met him twice.
To his horror, his wife was cheating on him with her married coworker, who was a father of three. He even discovered that they were exchanging sensual messages while she was rubbing his back a few nights ago. He explained that she had bad-mouthed him in some messages and revealed his insecurities to the other man.

OP talked to his friend and decided to hire a lawyer as he could not forgive his wife for cheating on him. He wanted to take revenge, so he recorded all the messages and photos exchanged between his wife and the other man.
Part of his revenge included hiring one of the best lawyers despite the hefty cost, as he wanted to be sure he would win. In his Reddit post, he wrote:
"I just want to inflict pain at this point. I want to hurt her emotionally. I feel eviscerated, emasculated. I will not entertain an apology. This is the one act that is unforgivable. It takes SO many steps to cheat on someone. They all can be stopped until the sin is complete."

According to the man, his wife usually goes out of town for business meetings for five days every three months. However, he suspected that it was her time to meet up with her boyfriend. This time, he wanted to follow her and break into her hotel room, but the lawyer advised against it.
Instead, he kissed her goodbye at the airport and let her leave for the trip even though he felt terrible inside and pretended everything was fine. He was waiting for the day he would confront his wife with the evidence he was collecting.
Reddit users gave pieces of advice on the platform, including advice on speaking with a lawyer. "Do not show up at [the] hotel. Do not give either of them 'reason' to criticise you or bond over how insane or angry or weak [you are]," one commenter wrote.

"Don't confront her, go to the lawyer first and PLEASE tell his wife, she has as much right to know as you [sic]," another echoed.
Another Reddit user noted that it would be best for OP to compile his proof and documentation until OP consults a lawyer and comes up with a plan. "Let her go on one of her trips [and] use that time to take my everything and leave part of the documentation on the table," the person wrote.
A lawyer, who is also a Reddit user, left their advice in the comments section, emphasizing that OP shouldn't do anything without seeking legal help because of what he may lose if he makes the wrong move.

The man later updated his post. After his wife left, he met his lawyer to get guidance on what to do next. The lawyer told him about the contested and uncontested divorce options. He needed to confront his wife and tell her that he was filing for divorce. So OP waited for his wife to return to talk about it.
He was ready to confront his wife when she returned and knew precisely how to start the conversation. He gave her a chance to confess by asking her if there was anything she wanted to tell him, but she claimed she didn't have anything to say and instead asked him what was going on in his mind.
He asked her what the "special toy" was doing inside her luggage, and when her face immediately flushed red. She was stunned as she never imagined her husband would uncover her love affair. Her husband continued the conversation by asking about her boyfriend, and tears started to roll down her cheeks.

Knowing she was guilty, he asked her to leave the house and informed her that he would be filing for divorce. He also presented her with the stack of evidence he had collected during the conversation, including the text messages and images she had exchanged with her boyfriend.
OP threatened to tell their daughters about the affair if she didn't leave the house. He messaged the other man's wife on Facebook and exposed the fling to her in front of his wife. In anger, he searched through the stack of papers and started reading one of their conversations loudly:
"I just wish we could spend the day attached to each other. Just you inside of me.
You feel so much more intense than any other woman I've ever been with."

He explained in the post that he planned on telling everyone about his wife's affair because he wanted everyone to know how she ruined their long marriage for lust. However, he admitted that even though he wanted to tell his stepdaughters about it, he was afraid of their reaction.
After reading the post, some Reddit users suggested he should have followed her and caught her red-handed. Many told him he should have recorded a video for evidence against her. One user wrote:
"I have never experienced this, but I have to say I think you are handling this so well. I know it hurts, but you're not letting your emotions control your actions. I believe you're thinking clearly & have a great plan in place."

Like this user, many others commended OP for carefully planning his actions, and some admitted that they would have had difficulty thinking clearly in the same situation. Some praised him for not having a violent reaction to the information.
Later, his wife apologized to him and explained that she didn't see a future with the other man. She was having fun with him but didn't intend to ruin her marriage; however, OP considered any form of cheating a deal-breaker and refused to forgive her.
Do you think the man should have done something else instead of calmly confronting his wife? Could he come up with a better revenge plan, or was his plan perfect?
