Sometimes events beyond control and totally out of one's understanding could occur, changing one's life forever. Such was the story of Emma Crofts-Wilson.
Emma Crofts-Wilson went to bed one fateful night after experiencing some severe stomach and back pains. However, she could not have envisioned the next series of events and her life's turn after that night.
EMILY CROFTS-WILSON'S STORY
In 2017, Crofts-Wilson recalled how she had felt uncomfortable one night while nursing severe stomach and back pains. She took some painkillers hoping to be relieved of her discomfort before bedtime.
As expected, the drugs took effect, and soon enough, she felt better and was off to bed. The next day, Emma, who had been alone at home, made for the kitchen to presumably make some food when the pain from the previous night started again.
This time it was worse than the first pain she felt. Again, Emma felt a stinging sensation, each spasm stronger than the last, and when she looked below at her lower body, she saw a head popping out of her lady area. She stated:
"I didn't know what was happening. I just felt a major stinging feeling and when I looked down I saw a head."
Emma was quick-thinking as she felt a sudden urge to push. So, she started pushing and delivered a baby girl in her kitchen. Emma pushed for seven minutes.
NO KNOWLEDGE OF HER PREGNANCY
The 19-year-old was stunned beyond words concerning how she ended up birthing a child without even having prior knowledge of her pregnancy. The odd occasion sounded unbelievable, but Emma proved she did not know how.
The teenager relayed that she never noticed her busy changes because she was used to wearing baggy clothes. Although there was an increased craving for KFC meals, Emma didn't think it was anything to be alarmed about.
The young adult got her periods all through her pregnancy. Although it fluctuated, all that could have been termed as hormonal imbalance. So, the youngster only knew about her baby at the last minute.
HOW HER PARENTS REACTED
Emma's daughter, Hannah-Marie Teira, caught her mom and grandparents by surprise as she entered their kitchen. It was a terrifying experience, but Emma recalled that she did not scream as she started cleaning up.
After delivery, the new mom caught her baby and swaddled her in a towel. Then, she cut off the umbilical cord with kitchen scissors before she proceeded to send her mom a text that read:
"Please don't be mad or angry, but I've just had a baby. I don't know what to do."
The Christchurch, New Zealand resident, described how her mom had been stunned and found it unbelievable. However, when she got home, she found her daughter in a pool of blood with a baby.
Emma's mom and other family members swung into action as they drove her to the hospital to avoid complications. The doctors certified that it was a safe delivery and the baby was doing just fine.
Hannah-Marie weighed a healthy 6lbs 6oz at birth. Her mom was also doing well except for a tear that needed immediate surgery. Doctors also told Emma that she had lost one liter of blood.
BACKSTORY
Many months before Emma experienced the stomach ache that escalated into childbirth, she had a one-night stand with an Australian who had been visiting the city. The mom-of-one said of her child's father:
"I don't even know the dad's name."
Emma recalled not feeling a connection with her child after birth. However, the intense feelings came when the pair were at the hospital.
She explained that she did not even know how to find Hannah-Marie's dad, but her family and friends were supportive.
Emma's life changed the moment her daughter unexpectedly entered her life. One can only hold on to the fact that life is full of surprises, and fate could always usher in someone who would change one's life forever.
