Why Did Valerie Bertinelli File for Divorce from Husband Tom Vitale?

Hollywood actress Valerie Bertinelli and her spouse Tom Vitale have headed to the divorce court seeking to dissolve their decade-old union.

Award-winning actress Valerie Bertinelli has filed for divorce from spouse Tom Vitale citing irreconcilable differences. This was obtained by Today at the Los Angeles Superior Court of California, where she submitted the paperwork.

She filed for legal separation in 2021, but according to the current divorce documents, the "Valerie's Home Cooking" anchor and Vitale have been separated since 2019. The duo has a prenuptial arrangement that is in full force and effect and fully binding on the parties.

WHY DID VALERIE BERTINELLI FILE FOR DIVORCE?

Prior to filing for divorce, Bertinelli and Vitale had marital issues in the last five years of their marriage. However, those issues seemed to have been contained except for when she decided to end it all.

The "Hot In Cleveland" actress has stayed honest through her years in the entertainment industry, and she is quite open about issues. Bertinelli once shared that she did not know how to make a marriage work.

This has been during a chat on TopShopLive, and she noted at the time that although she and her spouse were separated, they were trying to make things work. This ended up not panning out well as she filed for divorce.

While it is certain that Bertinelli filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences, she is yet to file for dissolution of marriage. Her union with Vitale is her second time down the aisle.

HOW LONG HAVE THEY BEEN MARRIED?

Bertinelli met Vitale, a financial planner, through her brother in 2004. At the time, the pair had just gotten out of their respective marriages.

The Golden Globe winner was married to the late rocker Eddie Van Halen until their divorce was finalized in 2007, while Vitale, a father of four, had also just settled the divorce proceedings of his former marriage.

Vitale once shared in an interview that when he and Bertinelli met, they had been quite cautious of letting their guards down. However, they bonded over their Italian heritage, and according to Vitale, they understood each other.

They soon started dating, and the business expert moved into Bertinelli's oceanfront home with his oldest child. His other kids and Bertinelli's frequented the home, and their blended family became adorable.

The couple got married in 2011, and Vitale would often feature on his wife's Instagram posts. He also appeared on her Food Network show from time to time, with his last appearance in December 2019.

DOES BERTINELLI HAVE CHILDREN?

Like Vitale, Bertinelli was already a parent from her former marriage. She and Eddie welcomed a son, Wolfgang Van Halen, during their 26-year union.

Wolfgang is currently in his thirties and has chosen a career similar to his late father. The young man received his first Grammy nomination in 2021, marking a pivotal period in his hard rock and heavy metal music career.

Last year, Bertinelli celebrated Wolfgang as he turned 30. She shared a nostalgic montage of his life while gushing over him and wishing him the best as he continues his youthful life.
