After welcoming triplets with his wife, a man's world veered into a bittersweet situation. Then, things took a heart-rending turn a day after the babies' birth.

The 2022 Father's Day celebrations held profound meaning for Edmund Akrofi, a dad of two kids who has had to stay strong in the past year for his toddlers. It is safe to say that subsequent Father's Day celebrations will always hold that profound feeling.

Akrofi's world became bleak within two days of becoming a dad to triplets alongside his wife. What was to be a joyful celebration ended in sorrow as he returned home without the third baby and their mom.

INSIDE EDMUND AKROFI'S LIFE AS A SINGLE FATHER

Joy Learning TV caught up with Akrofi in a recent emotional interview where he opened up on how he has been navigating life and his new routine. Akrofi calmly narrated how his wife gave birth last year in June.

He shared that she birthed a set of triplets, but one of the babies died the following day. Their young family suffered another deathly blow when his wife also passed on that same day.

Akrofi was left with the emotional gash caused by his significant other's passing and the massive responsibility of caring for their newborn babies.

In the interview, which he gave almost one year after his wife's passing, the single dad mentioned that he couldn't stay at his old location any longer.

He relocated to a new neighborhood, where his kids could start their young life. In a bid to be adequately available for his twin boy and girl, Akrofi did not report to work.

This hiatus from work continued and transformed him into a full-time parent. The selfless father explained that he always had to be at home, even though he had nannies who took up some duties.

This was because he needed to be protective of the kids and had no prior relationship with the nannies. He added that the babies were also the only thing left to keep his wife's memories alive.

The man explained that being away from work had not been pleasant, but he realized being available for his children was critical for their upbringing. Akrofi explained that the nannies took charge of bathing and feeding the twins.

This had him reminiscing on the first time he tried handling these aspects himself. The single dad explained that he almost collapsed, not from the activity but from the emotions that ran through him.

He smiled while talking about moments when the kids needed a diaper change. Akrofi relayed that those were the funny and exciting moments. As he continued to share his touching story, Akrofi could not hold back his tears.

He put one hand over his face, quickly wiping off the few drops of tears and putting himself together again. Then, through his emotional state, Akrofi stated:

"It feels terrible. Very very terrible. It is an experience you wouldn't want to wish on your worst enemy."

He talked about feeling devastated by the knowledge that he and his wife were not separated but that everything boiled down to the fact that she was no more. And the thought of him now being alone was "very terrifying."

Akrofi continued talking about his twins, stating that he had to be strong for them and put a rein on his emotions because he was told twin babies do not do well in sad situations.

He relayed how he would muster composure, put on a smile, and play with his kids. He stated that this was what kept him going. However, despite the little ray of sunshine, Akrofi mentioned that the challenge had been unbearable emotionally.

Akrofi revealed that all through it, he has not been totally alone. His family and friends have been supportive. A plus about being unable to show up at work is that the man runs a building business with his younger brother.

He and his business partner often communicate via his cell phone, and his family is also helpful with sending in money from time to time. He shared that his wife's closest niece also sent him some kiddies' items when the twins were infants.

The widower shared that the babies were born before their due date, so he had to be with them at the hospital for a while. Then, he elaborated on how he would play kangaroo as instructed by the doctors.

According to him, this parent-child activity entailed having the newborn swaddled and strapped to the parent's chest for warmth. Akrofi shared that the doctors said it helped with their growth.

According to Very Well Family, widowed single parents are advised to surround their kids with adults who love them to facilitate their healthy growth. The notion states that the surviving parent is the most important adult in a child's life, but other adults around also play a part.

Another critical point is creating a structure that helps kids be comfortable. Despite his pain, Akrofi is forging a routine for his kids by being heavily present in their formative years.

While single parents take charge of the necessities for their children, it is advisable to slow down and seek support. Although there are patterns to how grief can be processed, widowed parents are advised not to shelve their pain or bottle up the feelings.

Akrofi and his twins have been moving through life with the reality of staying strong through the pain. When asked how he keeps it together, the businessman said he often tried to make himself happy.

He finds solace in listening to music, as he is a chorister. Akrofi listens to hymns, which have been instrumental in giving him succor.

Ultimately, the single father's show of immense love for his children and the zeal to care for them is at the core of it all.
