Ohio Boy, 8, Risks Life to Pull Sister Out of Kidnapper’s Arms and Fast-Moving Car
When a young boy realized his sister's life was in jeopardy, he immediately jumped into action. The siblings were in a car their great-grandma thought she had locked before leaving. To her dismay, things took a strange turn until something astonishing happened.
One Thursday afternoon in April 2019, Nita Coburn received a call from her daughter, Angela, who said she was unwell. Soon afterward, Coburn went to her daughter's house, picked her up, and drove her to Atrium Medical Center, Middletown, Ohio.
Also present in the car were eight-year-old Chance Blue and his ten-year-old sister, Skylar Weaver. The siblings were in the backseat when their great-grandmother stopped the car outside the hospital's emergency room.

When Things Went Down
Coburn said she thought she had locked the car before she helped her unwell daughter into a wheelchair. She noted that she wouldn't have otherwise left the children alone in the car.
As a parent, her worst nightmare was on the verge of being realized when something astonishing happened.
But what she didn't know then and only realized later was that she hadn't locked the vehicle. Per Coburn and Angela, a safety feature prevented the doors from being locked with the keys in the ignition.

Fearing the Worst
With her two beloved great-grandkids in the car, the doors of which were unlocked, Coburn felt highly uncomfortable while recalling the details of that Thursday afternoon. She told WCPO 9:
"Every time I think about it, I want to cry. It's the most morbid feeling in the world."
Per Coburn and security footage released from the scene, a man took over the wheel of Coburn's car and drove away from the ER entrance with the two kids inside. When she noticed her car speeding away from where she had parked it, Coburn said she ran after it as fast as possible.
The worried grandma said nothing else mattered to her, albeit her children's safety. Coburn recalled finally catching up with the speeding vehicle and grabbing the driver's side door handle, trying to open it.

Cries for Help
But despite Coburn's best efforts, she said the man in the driver's seat slammed the door shut. She recounted:
"The second time he slammed it shut, I saw he had a hold of Skylar."
After seeing that the alleged carjacker had a hold of her great-granddaughter, Coburn said she shouted and grabbed the door handle again, determined to save Chance and Skylar.
But instead of stopping the car, Coburn said the alleged kidnapper accelerated and dragged her along the pavement. As a parent, her worst nightmare was on the verge of being realized when something astonishing happened.

To the Rescue
The surveillance footage from the harrowing scene showed eight-year-old Chance pulling Skylar out of the alleged abductor's grip and out of the car through the rear passenger door, both tumbling out of the moving car together.
It was crystal clear from the CCTV recording that the young boy was determined to save his sister and wouldn't let a stranger drive off with her. The siblings recalled the spine-chilling details of how the alleged carjacker hopped into the driver's seat and set the car in motion.

Jumping into Action
Chance said he quickly opened the door, creating enough space for him and his sister to escape from the fast-moving car. But before he could do so, Skyler said the man grabbed her hoodie, yanking her back into the car.
Eventually, Chance succeeded in pulling his sister out of the alleged kidnapper's hold, after which the kids jumped out of the moving vehicle. "I fell out, and I ran back to the car, and I got my sister out," recalled Chance.
In the meantime, Coburn continued to hold on to the driver's door, unaware that her great-grandchildren had escaped. When the alleged carjacker sped away, she saw Chance and Skylar running toward her. She recollected:
"That car didn't bother me at all. It was them two babies. No one needs to feel that fear. No one does."
The Quick-Thinking Boy
According to the authorities, the stolen vehicle was located a few blocks away, and the driver was taken into custody. The police identified the man as Dalvir Singh, 24, who was arrested on charges of abduction, felonious assault, and grand theft.
According to sources, after their escape, Chance and Skylar went straight to the hospital's security, who chased and caught Singh.
The Middletown Division of Police shared the security footage from the scene, which showed how Chase's quick thinking, courage, and selflessness helped save the day. The caption read:
"This little guy is a hero. No question. He pulled his sister out of the car with no concern for his own safety. That is incredible at his age and outstanding work by Officers Kirby and Engleka to find the suspect and take him down without incident."
The Siblings' Love for Great-Grandma
While Coburn and her daughter were immensely proud of the children's efforts, they, in turn, couldn't stop thanking their lovely great-grandma. Chance expressed:
"She would probably die for us. She loves us."
Several months after surviving the gut-wrenching incident, the siblings appeared on "The Steve Wilkos Show" with their great-aunt and great-grandmother. Skylar described the events as "very scary."
Little Heroes
When asked if she wanted to say something to her brother, a teary-eyed Skylar replied, "I'm very proud of him." Wilkos commended the siblings' bravery in surviving the traumatic event and hailed their love and concern for each other. He added:
"These kids are like superheroes."
Chance and Skylar went on to receive love and appreciation from people when their phenomenal story made headlines across national media. In a subsequent episode in December 2020, Wilkos talked with Angela, Chance, and Skylar on Facetime.
Sibling Love at Its Best
Angela thanked Wilkos for giving the family a generous donation of $5,000 that helped them buy a new home. She also told him that the alleged kidnapper would serve ten years in prison.
Moreover, Wilkos appreciated Chance and Skylar's heroism and kind-heartedness, to which Angela said, "They are all-around good kids."
