Candace Cameron Bure broke her silence after the controversy and defended her beliefs.
"Full House" actress Candace Cameron Bure is not new to controversy. Just recently, she came under fire after her seemingly prejudiced remarks during an interview with The Wall Street Journal became public.
In her sitdown with the publication, the actress disclosed that she wanted the holidays to be a time to bring Christian values back to family entertainment.
She shared that she wanted to tell stories that promoted faith, which she believes many channels have abandoned today. Asked whether her movies would feature gay couples, Bure said the Great American Family channel wouldn't, adding:
"I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core."
Her comments caused a lot of uproar among fans and other celebrities. Following the remarks, actress Hilarie Burton Morgan took to Twitter, calling Bure a hypocrite.
She slammed "The Boy Meets World" actress for openly admitting to bigotry and noted that there was nothing untraditional about same-sex couples. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Burton's husband, supported his wife's sentiments and thanked her for calling out Bure.
Jojo Siwa, also a member of the LGBTQ community, weighed in on the matter and criticized Bure for her remarks. In her angry Instagram message, Siwa wrote:
"This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people."
How Did Candace Cameron Bure's Daughter Defend Her?
As the world descended on Bure following her comments, someone close to her chose to take her side and defend her from the public criticism she was facing.
The actress's daughter Natasha Bure defended her mother from the criticism in a lengthy Instagram post where she addressed Bure, saying she loved her for always choosing Christ before anything else.
She wrote that often, words get taken out of context and warped, but she acknowledges her mother for continuously standing firm in what she believes in and handling herself with grace.
What Did Candace Cameron Bure Say after the Backlash?
Bure has since responded to the uproar with a lengthy Instagram post where she described herself as someone who loved and had great affection for everyone. She said she would never intentionally try to hurt or offend anyone.
She also let anyone "trying" to tarnish her name know that she loved them anyway before noting that as a devoted Christian, she yearned to build bridges, bring people closer to God, and portray a reflection of God's love to all those she crossed paths with.
She revealed that she loved everyone, including those who had tried to assassinate her character and everyone from whatever faith, ethnicity, sexual orientation, and political affiliation.
She then disclosed that in her journey to find a home for more faith-based programs, she has worked with people of all ethnicities and identities before and was in no way interested in converting anyone's beliefs through her storytelling.
