The actor lost his darling wife in July 2020. Preston had been battling breast cancer for a while but ultimately succumbed to the disease at the age of 57. Naturally, Travolta was in shreds after his wife of 28 years passed away, and three years after her death, the actor still mourns the loss of his beloved wife.

Travolta honored his wife on what would have been her 60th birthday. To mark the occasion, the "Swordfish" star shared a photo of him and Preston, captioning the image, "Happy birthday to my favorite dance partner! We love you and miss you Kelly." The picture showed Travolta and Preston after attending an event together.

After losing his wife, tragedy kept knocking on Travolta's door. In 2022, the actor faced the loss of two more women who were dear to him. His "Grease" co-star, Olivia Newton-John, passed away in August after battling cancer. Travolta's one-time girlfriend, Kirstie Alley, died in December of the same year.

While naming the actors who passed away, Travolta became overrun with emotion. The actor had Newton-John since the iconic musical "Grease" sent his career skyrocketing. Introducing the tribute brought back many emotions for Travolta, especially since many of his close personal acquaintances. The actor expressed:

"They've touched our hearts, they've made us smile and became dear friends who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to."

Fans took to social media after the Oscars to show their support for the actor. One Twitter user wrote, "Oh poor John Travolta. We all miss her, dude." Travolta's words left few dry eyes, evident in another user's words, "Oh John Travolta's making me cry." Another user remarked that the tribute was beautiful, while another shared:

Besides Newton-John, Travolta also knew Alley personally. The two dated when they were younger, and Travolta praised her for being a tremendous person and friend over the years. Like Newton-John and Preston, Alley also passed away after battling cancer for a long time.

John Travolta Is a 'Hero' for His Kids: His Life as a Widower

Losing his wife took its toll on Travolta. However, he seized life as a widower with both hands, ensuring he could give his kids the best possible lives. The actor worked hard to build lasting relationships with his children, Ella Bleu Travolta and Benjamin Travolta. The actor's oldest son, Jett Travolta, passed away at 16.

Travolta used his children as the impetus he needed to work through his wife's death, saying, "It is a privilege to be [a] father." He often boasts with his kids on social media, sharing images of them enjoying each other's company and exploring new destinations together.

Travolta's kids have reciprocated the tremendous amount of love their dad showers on them. For his 69th birthday, his daughter shared a post to celebrate her dad. The Instagram post had an image of the father-daughter duo, and the caption read:

"Yesterday marked the birthday of my hero. The most incredible father, friend and role model anyone could ask for. I love you, Daddy."

Travolta has shared how "proud" he is of his kids on multiple occasions. He danced with his daughter to celebrate his late wife, captioning a photo of the event, "My daughter @ella.travolta and I dancing in memory of momma. One of Kelly's favourite things, dancing with me."
