Parents would do absolutely anything for their children, but at times, even the most careful parents can get distracted by other things. In a brief moment, a woman's life flashed before her eyes when she realized her son was seconds away from a bad fall.

In Colombia, surveillance footage caught the moment a mother let go of her child to speak on the phone while the child wandered off. They had just gotten off the elevator and were about to enter a glass door.

The Terrifying Moment

While the mother spoke on the phone, she let go of her child's hand, and the little one quickly walked towards a railing. The child's curiosity got the best of him, and he sat too close to the railing, causing him to lose his balance in the process.

To his mother's horror, he fell forward through the gaping hole of the railing, and she quickly jumped into action, diving onto the floor in an attempt to grab her son.

A man who was standing nearby rushed to the floor beneath to try and catch the boy in case he slipped, while other people came out of their rooms after hearing what was happening outside.

The boy and his mother were on the fourth floor of the building when it happened. People inside the building were quick to respond to the commotion. In the video capturing the terrifying scene, the mother is seen rushing to get to her child, grabbing his leg with one hand before carefully placing her phone on the floor to get a better grasp of the toddler with her other hand.

It didn't take long before other people came to her rescue and helped her pull out the little boy to safety.

Opinions Varied

The clip that went viral made people wonder what they would have done in the situation. Many showed their support for the mom, whose quick response ultimately saved her son, while some were puzzled as to how she was still able to calmly put her phone down.

"The way she put the phone down, she was very calm... I think I would drop everything instead of putting them down," one woman wrote.

"I'm in tears now, thank God that mom's reaction were [sic] from Heaven above to save her baby child," another man said.

Thankfully, the mom was able to pull her son to safety with the help of kind strangers. After the heart-stopping incident, the mother and her son remained seated on the floor, trying to calm themselves down.

According to the building manager, the child did not incur any injuries, thanks to the mother's incredible instincts to protect him.
