2-Year-Old Girl Disappears from Home at Night – FBI Offers $25,000 Reward for Information Leading To Her
A two-year-old girl has gone missing in Lansing, Michigan. Little Wynter Cole Smith disappeared on Sunday night, and the FBI has since begun a search for her and held press conferences regarding her disappearance.
On July 4, 202, at 4 p.m., a press conference was held to give updates on the case of the missing 2-year-old Wynter Cole Smith. Police asked those close to the area where Wynter was last seen to submit any surveillance footage that could be useful to the case.
The FBI has also asked that those along the suspected travel route, where they believe Wynter's mother's ex-boyfriend may have taken her after he allegedly kidnapped her, to submit similar footage.
Officials also warned that anybody with any information regarding Wynter's disappearance that has not come forward will be prosecuted "to the fullest extent of the law." Police suspect Wynter's mother's ex-boyfriend of kidnapping her.
What Happened to Wynter Cole Smith?
Sharen Eddings, Wynter's grandmother, has revealed what it has been like for her and her family since Wynter went missing. Authorities suspect that the man who kidnapped her is Rashad Trice, who also allegedly stabbed Wynter's mother.
Trice was arrested early on Monday, but Wynter, who went missing the day before, still has not been found. Eddings is Wynter's father's mother, who shared:
"We have faith because we’ve seen kids returned home after tragic events."
Eddings admitted the family had been on an emotional rollercoaster since Wynter's disappearance, and they hoped she would be one of the children who would be able to return home safely after a traumatic ordeal. State Police believe Wynter might be in Metro Detroit.
The FBI has released routes upon which they believe Wynter may have traveled since she was kidnapped. They discussed these and other details in the press conference they held on July 4.
Authorities revealed that the incident began late on Sunday night when they were called to the area around BeauJardin Drive and Belle Chase Boulevard. When they arrived, a 22-year-old woman, who turned out to be Wynter's mom, had been stabbed.
Wynter's mother told authorities it was Trice that had stabbed her and kidnapped Wynter after. She was then transported to the hospital and is expected to recover. Police have now revealed that Trice is not Wynter's biological father.
Authorities have asked anyone who travels along the I-96 and Grand River Avenue between Lansing and Detroit to look out for Wynter, or anything they suspect might be a clue to her whereabouts.
While the investigation into Wynter is ongoing, the FBI has offered a $25,000 reward to anyone who can provide any information on the whereabouts of the little girl so she can be returned to her family safely.
Trice and Wynter were last seen together at around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday in a 2013 white Chevrolet Impala. The car was found along with Trice, but there is still no sign of Wynter, although authorities are actively searching for her. Our thoughts and prayers go to Eddings, Wynter, and Wynter's mother during this difficult time.
Another child also went missing in a car and when the car was found, the child's father found a note in the car seat where his child should have been. Read more here.
