Veteran Returns from Deployment, Finds His House Empty & His Pregnant Wife Gone

When a soldier returned home after nine months of deployment, he was expecting to see his wife. He wanted to ask her why she lost touch after he left. But what greeted him was an empty house, and had no idea where his wife was.

A man who worked for the military was deployed to another country, leaving his wife alone at home. Saying goodbye was difficult, but he looked forward to their correspondence while he was away.

It appeared all was well until things took a strange turn after he left his home country. His wife became distant, and he never heard from her again.

A Redditor with the username SliverFoxMindCap wrote a detailed post in the cheating_stories subreddit, sharing an incident from about two decades ago. He wanted to find out what other people would have done in his situation.

The man was 23 when he was about to leave for deployment, while his wife was 28. He said he didn't have a "healthy marriage" with her, and there were a lot of negative things about her that he had ignored. He recalled being frequently intimate with her soon after learning about his deployment to Iraq, adding:

"Fast forward to deployment day, and we're both a mess, I'm sure you can imagine."

What Happened after He Left?

Three months after his deployment, the military gave him and his fellow soldiers a satellite phone and set up mail to communicate with their families. Excited to talk to his wife, the man called her, but she didn't answer. He called her a few more times to no avail.

Soon, his fellow soldiers began receiving mail and packages from their families, but the man didn't receive anything from his wife. He waited for her to write to him or send something special, but not once did he get anything. When other soldiers learned about it, they shared their things with him to make him feel comfortable.

"9 Months in and still no letters, packages, or phone calls from my wife, and at this point, I was mentally not in a good place," the man recounted. Soon, he was asked to go home, but he didn't know why until he reached his house.

To his surprise, his house was empty, and his wife had disappeared. Everything, including his clothes, had vanished. He talked to one of his neighbors and learned that his wife had invited another man to their home and lived with him for four months. Soon, rumors regarding her pregnancy surfaced, and she moved to another location.

While living with another man, OP's (Original Poster's) wife used his bank account to fulfill her financial needs. She would withdraw his salary from his account, leaving only a few bucks behind. Moreover, she didn't make the monthly car payments, and authorities eventually took OP's car away.

According to the man, he once saw his wife briefly and learned from her that she was having twins. "Obviously, they weren't mine," the man said in his Reddit post.

Knowing that his wife cheated on him was a massive shock to the man. He never thought she would invite another man into their house and spend all his hard-earned money. What Happened to the Woman?

Learning that his wife had abandoned him and fled with all his belongings was a heartbreaking experience for the man. He revealed that he had lost about 50 lbs in a month after the incident because of stress and poor eating and sleeping habits.

Eventually, the man was admitted to a mental hospital. His wife, about seven months pregnant then, visited him and told him what she had done behind his back. He recalled:

"She had moved him in 2 weeks after I was deployed, and the affair had been going on for a year."

Feeling angry and heartbroken, the man asked her why she cheated on him, to which she replied, "I wasn't happy." Hearing those words made the man realize he wanted to leave the mental hospital as soon as possible.

As a result, he began hiding his true feelings from the doctors, pretending he was okay. They let him go two months later because they thought he was doing fine, unaware that his life would soon go downhill.

After leaving the hospital, the man learned that his then-wife had been leaving about $300 in his account instead of taking all his monthly salary. But instead of saving the money or using it to improve his life, the man spent it on alcohol and clubs, further deteriorating his mental health.

About two months later, it was time for the man to leave the military. Leaving the army meant he didn't have to support his wife anymore. He was relieved that she wouldn't get his money anymore, but this wasn't the end of his story.

Admitting that he should have divorced her earlier, the man said he received divorce papers two years after he left the army. At the time, he was dating his would-be wife, so he went to court with her and his father. There, he saw his ex-wife, who was seemingly jealous upon seeing another woman beside him.

Before attending the court hearing, the man had researched and found a way to get his revenge. He remembered that his ex was married before tying the knot with him, and he found the paperwork that proved her divorce was only finalized four days after she married OP. When the judge learned about this, OP's ex was charged with polygamy. The man was relieved to see his ex plead in court.

In the last part of his post, the man shared that he tied the knot two years later, and he welcomed a baby boy with his new wife. He now lives happily with his wife, and the last time he heard about his ex was from his father when he saw her with her kids at a bus stop.

Although the man went through some of the worst days of his life in the mental hospital and during the two months after his release, he finally found happiness with his new partner.
