A woman is at her wit's end because of her mother, who knows no bounds. Even her child noticed that his grandmother was problematic and decided to vocalize his thoughts to her.

A Reddit user took to the platform to share an uncomfortable encounter between her son and mother. The woman revealed her husband often works late, so she spends most of her time with their toddler son all day.

However, she shared it can be lonely sometimes, so she invited her mom over. Things did not go well. According to the woman, her mother and son rarely got along.

Sometimes, the woman's mother and son would gel, which can be a huge relief for her. Still, this was not one of those days when the grandmother came over.

At one point during the visit, the youngster told his grandmother that it was raining, and she ignored him. Instead, she told him, "Ask your mom where the pots are," as she wanted to reheat the food.

This was where everything went downhill. The grandmother picked up a kitchen towel designed with cats, which the child loves, and he asked her not to use it.

She obliged and put it down, but when her grandchild went upstairs, she picked it up again and used it as a pot holder. The grandson came down only to find her using the towel. He screamed.

Later, the trio sat down to eat, and the grandmother offered her daughter shrimp, which the daughter was allergic to. "I accidentally used the words "I am scared to eat it because I am sometimes allergic," the woman penned in her Reddit post recounting her story.

The Grandchild Told the Grandmother to Leave Their House

The doting mother's choice of words somehow triggered her beloved son, and she explained how things unraveled from that point onwards, saying:

"My toddler didn't like that I said, 'I am scared..' so then I think my toddler just couldn't take it anymore and said loudly, 'I want grandma to go home." Then a minute later, 'I don't want grandma here.'"

Following that statement, the grandmother upped and left the house, but she was gracious about it, said her daughter. The woman shared that her mom told them she was done eating and would be off; she said her goodbyes and left.

The Reddit user pleaded for advice on the platform, admitting she did not know how to tackle the situation of her son and mother's fragile relationship – which saddens her.

The user also noted that she could not live in the same house as her mother who was "difficult," adding she could not evaluate what occurred between her and her child because she suffers from depression.

She asked fellow Reddit users if they might have any words of consolation or advice for her in this instance while revealing what kind of a person her mother is:

"My mom doesn't listen. If I asked her not to do or say something, she's most likely going to resist and excuse herself."

People commented on her predicament in the comments section, sharing what they grasped from the whole situation and offering advice. One person said it was apparent the child noticed that his grandmother broke two boundaries which upset him, adding that the youngster is "quite emotionally intelligent!"

That said, the social media user stated the child is merely a child and that the grandparent is the adult in this situation and should learn to respect her grandchild.

According to the user, things were not complicated because the child asked his grandmother not to use something, and she blatantly ignored his plea. The user suggested the woman sit down with her mom and explain the boundaries and that if she decides not to listen, it is a cause for concern.

Another Reddit user praised the woman's child for being well-aware and insightful, adding she should be proud of her son because he was right. The user called out the grandmother for portraying narcissistic behavior as she brought food her daughter is allergic to.

More users gave props to the child, with one individual writing, "It was absolutely not rude, especially after the fact grandma crossed multiple boundaries that were easy to not cross."

Meanwhile, one other user said the child was setting and upholding boundaries much better than his mother while urging the mom to stand up to her parent. The user said the mom should set a boundary and that if her mother crosses it or refuses to respect it, she should distance herself from her.

Rules to Help Kids Set Their Boundaries

There are some guidelines to help kids set their boundaries when it comes to adults. Teaching them to say "No," is the first step in preparing them to be brave enough to stand up for themselves.

Although some people find it challenging to make use of the word, it is regarded as the "most powerful word in the universe." If someone asks you to do or say something you are not comfortable with, the best response is saying, "No."

Secondly, help your kids learn not to allow others to change them. They need to remain true to their own character in the face of things that might change them.

For instance, if they find themselves amongst bullies, it is important to teach them not to resort to bullying other children when they see their peers doing it. They can forgive those who have hurt them, but they do not have to like them or be like them.

Finally, children must be constantly reminded that their happiness solely depends on themselves and not what anyone else thinks of them. If they find themselves surrounded by people who say mean things or bring about bad energy, then those people will lose out on knowing the best versions of themselves. If that is the case, then they do not deserve to know that about them.
