Mom Comes to Pick Her Son up from Kindergarten before the Snowfall – Finds Out He’s Not There

A mom received quite the scare when she turned up to her son's kindergarten to pick him up, only to discover that he was no longer there. With rampant child abductions, she feared the worst and felt she was in a terrible nightmare.

After receiving a weather notice for impending snowfall, a school's morning kindergarten batch was given the option to take the school bus home. Usually, such arrangement wasn't available to the class because there were no mid-day school buses around.

The mom usually picks her son up from school rather than letting him on the bus. That particular day, however, the snowfall forecast canceled the afternoon kindergarten class, which meant the morning batch could use the bus instead.

Regardless, the mom asked the school to keep her son inside so she could pick him up like always. Many other parents chose the pickup option as well.

The mom figured this setup would be a lot easier for her. She needed to pick her daughters up from preschool too, and no one would be home if her son took the bus.

When she arrived at the kindergarten, her son wasn't there. "So I arrive to pick him up, and he's nowhere to be found. They're calling each other on radios, and everyone's clueless," she recalled.

After five long minutes, the school staff assumed the boy had accidentally gotten on the bus. They told the mom to pick her daughters up, and they'd call the bus driver to bring the child back to school.

The woman did as the staff advised. She went to pick her daughters up from preschool and decided to return to her son's kindergarten afterward.

On the way back, she received a distressing call. The school staff told her that the bus driver had let the boy off near their home.

The mom rushed to her house as fast as she could. When she arrived, she saw her son crying at the bus stop near their home, with another parent comforting him.

The parent accompanying her son said he was terrified to realize no one was home. The mom was relieved to have found her son safe and sound, even though she knew this situation could have been avoided altogether.

After settling at home and ensuring her son was okay, the mom couldn't help but process her feelings. She was angry that the school staff could be so irresponsible to let her son on the bus without her permission.

She remained level-headed and acknowledged that people made mistakes and the school staff wasn't perfect. However, she didn't wish the distressing situation on anyone and wanted to ensure it didn't happen again.

The mom went online to ask for opinions on how she should respond. She wanted the school staff to be responsible for their actions, especially since losing someone's child is a serious incident.

"I get that people make mistakes, but losing someone's kid deserves repercussions IMO," she said online when asking for help.

The woman thought the school was downplaying their mistake by saying it was a "simple miscommunication." She didn't think it was simple, especially since the situation could have ended much worse.

People assured the mom that her feelings were valid. They asked her apologize to her child and debrief him that what happened wasn't the plan.

"What if that other mom hadn't stayed with him? What if he had just stayed outside in the snowstorm? I know thinking of the worst-case scenario is never helpful, but these are real things that could have happened because of the school's mistakes," one wrote.

"How in the world did your son get left?! He is 5, maybe 6. Not acceptable. AT ALL. I would be livid, heads would be rolling. I have no advice, just lots of sympathy," another parent said, validating the mom's anger.
