Dana Carvey’s Son, Dex, Passes Away: 'Last Night We Suffered a Terrible Tragedy'
Dana Carvey recently announced the unexpected passing of his eldest son, Dex Carvey, who was following in his footsteps as a comedian in Hollywood. His Instagram post revealed Dex's cause of death.
On November 17, 2023, American comedian and actor Dana Carvey penned an emotional post announcing the tragic passing of his son, Dex Carvey.
Dana shared the news on Instagram, revealing that Dex died from an accidental drug overdose at the young age of 32. Although his life was cut short, Dex lived his life wonderfully and manifested many great gifts.

He was also talented as a comedian and pursued art, filmmaking, and music when time allowed. Dex is survived by his parents, brother, and girlfriend, Kaylee. Dana wrote in his post:
"Last night we suffered a terrible tragedy [...]. It's not an exaggeration to say that Dex loved life. And when you were with him, you loved life too. He made everything fun."

According to law enforcement, Dex was locked in a bathroom and discovered unresponsive by first responders, who received a call from his girlfriend. He was pronounced dead on the scene on Wednesday evening in Los Angeles.
Dex was following in his father's footsteps and opened for Dana's Netflix special, "Straight White Male," in 2016. The father and son had a close relationship and shared the same passion for comedy alongside Dex's brother, Thomas.

Dana Carvey often adored his children during interviews and wanted to help them succeed in the industry. Besides their career, he was a hands-on father who paused his Hollywood career to focus on raising his boys.
Besides the Netflix stint, Dex is a cinematography and film/video production graduate from the University of Southern Columbia. He is known as an editor and actor for "Beyond the Comics," "Carpool Pandering," "The Funster," and "Saturday Night Live," the show his father appeared in for six years. He is also a partner broadcaster for Twitch TV.
