Keith Urban's Ex-Girlfriend, Laura Sigler, Reportedly Warned Nicole Kidman Before She Married Him
Years before their bombshell divorce filing and the musician's recent change to the lyrics of a song, Keith Urban's ex-girlfriend had reportedly cautioned Nicole Kidman about her estranged husband.
Before the glamorous red carpets, the gushing tributes, and the seemingly unshakable marriage... There was a stern warning.
Long before Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's shocking split made headlines, back in the early 2000s, prior to the duo's 2006 nuptials, an ex-girlfriend of Urban's named Laura Sigler warned Kidman of Urban's inability to commit long-term.

A Love That Was Destined to Crack? Former Flame Paints a Dark Portrait
The ex — who once not only shared a romance with Urban, but an engagement — voiced serious concerns about his ability to maintain a lasting relationship. "Nicole and Keith might date for a while — but it won't last very long," she remarked in a candid 2005 interview with The Sun, adding, "I don't know her but [sic] I know him very well."
Sigler, who dated the country star during a period marked by personal struggles and had not spoken to him since their engagement ended in 2002, did not mince words about the toll his past took on those around him.

"There were a lot of lows with the drugs. I don't have any dark past — he was probably the darkest part, but I'm on my own now and I'm happy about that," she expressed.
Her warning painted a troubling picture of Urban's emotional availability, further echoed by his former manager, Gary Shaw. "I'll be very surprised if the relationship lasts. He is in it for the chase. He likes to go after what he wants and [sic] if he can't have it, he wants it even more," shared Shaw previously.

Urban's former manager went on to say, "He would be intrigued by anything and anyone he couldn't get." Still, despite Sigler's stark warning, Kidman moved forward with the relationship — and in June 2006, she and Urban exchanged vows.
The years that followed brought not only red carpet appearances and musical milestones but also the birth of their two daughters, as the couple settled into what many believed was a rock-solid union.
'Life-Beginning': Keith Urban Once Credited Nicole Kidman for Saving Him
By 2016, a decade into their marriage, Urban credited Kidman with being a pivotal force in his personal healing. In a CBS interview, he reflected on how her unwavering support helped pull him from the depths of addiction.
"Meeting her and getting married wasn't life-changing, [sic] it was life-beginning," he stated. "It was literally like, 'Okay, now life starts.'"
During that same interview, Kidman gushed about the thrill of watching her husband perform live, divulging, "When you go and see Keith live, that's when you really get to know him [...] I mean it's extraordinary [...] I like how it sounds."
With plans for her and their daughters to join him on tour that summer, she added cheerfully, "We'll be out there dancing. We like dancing!"
But behind the scenes, it seems all wasn't as harmonious as it appeared. Nearly two decades after saying I do, Kidman and Urban's decision to separate has sent ripples through Hollywood — though those closest to the couple reportedly saw it coming.
According to a source who spoke with People, the split "really hasn't been a secret," with the duo having been living separately for some time now. While the news may have blindsided fans, insiders claimed it felt "kind of inevitable," pointing to a growing distance that had become increasingly difficult to ignore.

A Slow Descent Behind the Spotlight's Glow
According to insiders, those warning signs weren't just emotional distance — they were rooted in deeper issues Urban had been privately grappling with. A source close to the musician revealed that he has been going through some things leading up to the divorce, suggesting a period marked by personal unrest.
Meanwhile, another insider connected to Kidman noted, "He has been making questionable choices for some time now and [sic] this was not the case of them just drifting apart."
For those observing from within, the breakdown felt less like a sudden rupture and more like a slow unraveling — one that had been quietly building beneath the surface. That long-building drift ultimately led to a definitive breaking point.
According to TMZ, Kidman officially filed for divorce, citing "irreconcilable differences" as the reason behind the end of their 19-year-long marriage. The filing, though abrupt in timing, came after what appears to have been a meticulously organized process behind the scenes.

Legal documents reveal that both Kidman and Urban signed a Marital Dissolution Agreement — complete with a parenting plan and financial provisions — indicating that the pair had already worked through the core terms of their split before making it public.
As part of their arrangement, Kidman will serve as the primary residential parent of their two daughters, with the children scheduled to spend 306 days a year with her and 59 with Urban. While both parties waived spousal and child support, the agreement states that Urban has already prepaid his child support obligations.

The documents also include a clause confirming their intent to co-parent, with both parties agreeing to make major decisions — including those related to education and healthcare — jointly.
Notably, the filings were signed just days apart, with Urban adding his signature on August 29, 2025, and Kidman finalizing hers on September 6, pointing to a decision that may have been brewing quietly but came to light swiftly.

Keith Urban Takes the Stage with Musician Maggie Baugh
In the wake of the public divorce filing, Urban has continued to pour himself into his music, recently sharing the stage with rising artist and instrumentalist Maggie Baugh. Reflecting on the experience, Baugh spoke highly of the country veteran's talent and mentorship.
"Working with him was like going to rock star school. He is a musical encyclopedia," she said, underscoring Urban's enduring influence in the industry — even as his personal life undergoes dramatic change.
Baugh has also taken to Instagram to share her excitement about performing alongside Urban, posting snapshots of herself beaming and posing in front of one of his branded tour trucks.
In her caption, dated September 25, the artist wrote, "Chicago TONIGHT🫶 It is always a blast hanging with Keith and the Crew. Grateful to be in Chicago TONIGHT. Yall [sic] let's GO."
But not everyone is ecstatic. During a recent joint performance with Baugh, Keith Urban subtly changed the lyrics of a song famously written for Kidman — a move that sparked instant uproar across social media.
The country music star stirred controversy after changing the lyrics of his hit song "The Fighter" by inserting another woman's name in a bizarre and eyebrow-raising twist.

A Love Song Torn Apart on Stage
The alteration was heard in an Instagram post shared by Baugh. Originally penned as a deeply personal tribute to Kidman, "The Fighter" was long understood to be an emotional vow from the singer to his wife.
The original line sung as, "When they're tryin' to get to you. Baby, I'll be the fighter," was suddenly, and without warning, replaced with, "When they try to get to you, Maggie, I'll be your guitar player." The switch did more than confuse netizens — it ignited full-blown suspicion.

Urban himself has always credited the song as a reflection of his bond with Kidman, even telling fans back in 2018:
"She liked it, I mean, it was such an easy song to write because it was born of real conversations Nic and I had had before we got married, and some of those fears that she had about it, and me wanting to be able to make vows to her — promises to her that I knew I could keep. You just need that chance, just give me a chance, you know."
He went even further, "In a lot of ways, the song feels like vows, you know, they're really, 'oh this is what I promise I'll be and do, and I'll take care of you and keep the world away,' and it was very easy to write from that perspective."
Kidman's Tears And The Ghost Of A Promise
Kidman herself once revealed the powerful emotional grip the song had on her. Speaking at the 2017 ACM Awards, she said, "I remember when he first played it for me. I started to cry […] he likes these things and they come out of, I don't know where. They are beautiful gifts. Then, I can't believe the success for [sic] the album now. It has been a long, long journey."
So it's no wonder that Urban's lyric swap sent a tidal wave of fury and heartbreak rippling through social media.

'Homewrecker' Claims and Fan Outrage Online
The Instagram clip exploded, drawing hundreds of shocked and outraged reactions. One person wrote, "OK, dumping Nicole is looking more suspect." Another responded, "@a_sweet_life_always most definitely. She's been in his band for a year after he kicked out other long time members. Suspect for sure [sic]."
Things quickly got uglier, with one netizen claiming, "It's so very obvious she stole him from Nicole.. Feel so sorry for Nicole.. He will dump her too when the party is over and he see [sic] the classy lady he is losing."

Another added with brutal bluntness, "So he goes and sleeps with his guitar player and slaps Nicole in the face by changing the lyrics in a song he wrote for her to include the other woman?" And one devastated fan wrote, "You broke up Keith Urban and Nicole. Homewrecker 😜😄."
Some were convinced this was a textbook case of a midlife crisis unraveling in real time. "ya he's in his mid life crisis era. He dumped the classy, moving on to the trashy, and then he'll move on again. This kind of guy can't stand to be single. And he's looking more and more like his ego and macho-ness is in jeopardy🙄🙄🙄 [sic]," one person claimed.
A Song That Was Meant to Shield Her from the World
Urban has yet to address the storm head-on, but his past words only deepen the sting. In 2017, he told Entertainment Tonight, "It's a song about protecting the one you love, so that they don't have to take the blows of the world, and can stay pure. I try [to do that for my wife] every day."
