Reba McEntire hits ACMs in the same red dress she wore 25 years ago. She looks fabulous
The Queen of Country’ reclaimed her reign with a nostalgic performance at the 2018 ACM Awards and as a host for the ceremony. The reaction from the crowd was amazing.
63-year-old country music singer-songwriter Reba McEntire appeared at the ACM Awards on April 15 as host of the ceremony, replacing former hosts Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton. She used the opportunity to joke about how it took one woman to do the job of two men.
McEntire certainly did a good job hosting the three-hour show transmitted live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, proving she was quite the great choice for the role. Her part was very appreciated by the country music fans.
But there was a moment toward the end of the awards show when the singer, accompanied with her daughter-in-law, Kelly Clarkson, really stole the spotlight because of her choice of dress, as Country Music Nation reported.
McEntire took the stage along with Clarkson to perform her 1993 Grammy Award-winning hit Does He Love You, just as she did 25 years ago joined by Linda Davis, mother of Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott.
For the occasion, McEntire chose to bring back the infamous red dress she wore when she sang the popular tune at the 1993 CMA Awards show, known simply by devoted country music fans as ‘THE Red Dress.’
The ‘scandalous’ dress, created by Sandi Spika, was the sensation when she first wore it on stage, with everybody talking about it in the after-show and in the years to come. Even two years ago, she was still answering questions about the garment.
The dress featured strategically placed beads and sequins, but it was the daring plunging of Spika’s confection what caught the attention of the public and fellow members of the country music industry.
Not long ago, McEntire reflected on the dress, admitting she was apprehensive at first because of the revealing nature of the design, but she went ahead because of her deep trust for Spika’s fashion advice.
In the end, it was the right choice, for nobody could remain indifferent to McEntire and her unforgettable performance. She was really pleased she listened to Spika, as the crowd gasped when she took to the stage that legendary night.
Her father, however, was not as happy at all with McEntire’s daring look back then, and he made sure to let her know his thoughts about it.
‘Daddy looked at me and said, ‘Reba, did you have your dress on backward?’’ she recalled. ‘I didn’t win an award, but I made the newspaper that day.’
Now, 25 years after she made it famous, the controversial dress is making the news once again, bringing a positive reaction for fans that appreciated the nostalgia and praised McEntire for looking fabulous in the same dress after such long time.
