Despite feeling good that she was able to portray the character better, it was not an easy task.
"You know, it was a huge surprise to me. I got hit in the face pretty hard with depression for the first time in my life. I was eating so much processed foods and I drank way too much sugar. I was not that fun to be around."
This is not the first time the magnificent actress had to transform her body for a role, and she did it back in 2003.
For her 'Monster' project, she had to gain a significant amount of weight. However, Theron recalls that it was much easier to lose pounds in her twenties.
"I was worried. I was like, this is taking a really long time. Because on 'Monster', I just didn't snack for five days and I was fine. You know your body at 27 is a little different than your body at 43, and my doctor made sure to make me very aware of that."
According to Charlize, she wasn't the only one noticing the weight she had put on, and her little child was convinced that she was pregnant.
Theron is a single mom to two adopted children, Jackson, 6, and August, 3.
